A lady called me about qualifying for a dentistry grant. She made an appointment for me with this Signature Smiles for 2/18/20 @10am. I went to the appointment hoping to get a full grant for the service. I saw the dentist who then sent me to the finance person. But the finance person started throwing dollar figures at me saying the grant only covers $4000. I'd owe $8600. I told her right then and there that I cannot afford that out of pocket expense of $8600 at this time so I won't be using this dental service and she said, "well I'm going to apply for the grant anyway." I thought huh?? Baffled, I went to my car and immediately called the front desk to speak to that finance lady again but was told she was busy. I told that receptionist (petite lady with the extreme eyeliner) to tell that finance lady to NOT apply for any grants in my name. That receptionist told me "it was already done and applied for". I said then cancel it. She said "it cant be canceled". That once its submitted it cant be canceled. If I want it canceled to do it myself" by contacting whoever it was who contacted me about the grant (like it wasnt them in the first place). This made me suspicious. If I didnt apply for the grant how can I cancel the grant? They had all my information as requested when you walk in. That finance female knew I wasnt coming back so how does she apply for a grant without me receiving dental work from Signature Smiles and without my permission? I sincerely feel like the whole effort I made was to false advertising and a sham.
March 17, 2019 To whom it may concern: As an office we strive to provide the utmost professionalism and provide our patients with exemplary service and courtesy. That being said, we were saddened to see a complaint from Ms. ***. A complaint that could have been resolved had she spoken with someone in management and not our receptionist. Ms. came in for an evaluation and was under the impression that her treatment was going to be covered entirely by a grant and was very upset when she was informed that it was just a partial grant, ranging anywhere from 15%-25%. We always try to give patients a rough estimate and explain to them that we will submit their treatment to see if they are awarded any more than we are estimating. Somewhere in that conversation Ms. was under the impression we were going to use the amount she was awarded for our own gain. After we received her complaint we reached out to her over the phone to reiterate that is not how the program works and that the office would never see a cent of this grant without her commencing treatment and/or her consent. By the end of the conversation Ms. understood everything that was going on and we apologize to everyone for the misunderstanding and going forward we will better train our staff to explain themselves with more compassion and specifics. Please feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any further questions or concerns. *Spoke to patient, ***, at 3:46 pm on 3/17/2020 for about 5 minutes. Patient is ok.
Kind Regards, Dr.
