passenger were the registered or titled owners and didn’t have valid driver licenses. Idaho State law specifically states that impounded vehicles and belongings can ONLY be released to the registered or titled owners..no exceptions. The titled owner called from a distant state and made it very clear that she would not be coming after the vehicle because it wasn’t worth it. I informed her that if she sent the title that we would forgo the towing and storage charges and dispose of the vehicle to recoup our loss( the vehicle only has a salvage value of 150.00 and the tow was 250.00 plus 40.00 per calendar day). She stated that she didn't have the title at that time and would have to get it. All of our rates are on file with the state police. Approx. 2 weeks later the driver shows up with the title that has been partially transferred to him and wants to get his stuff at which time we allowed him. I informed him at that time of the total charges up to that day(which was 800.00) and he said that there was no way he could afford it. All vehicles valued under 750.00 are to be held for 7 days before they are subject to abandoned vehicle laws. At this time the vehicle is still in our impound and if the owner wishes to pay the towing and storage thru current they can gladly have the car back(as of today the total is 1250.00). At all times our company has followed state procedure and I believe the person that has filed this complaint is just trying to slander our company name. A copy of this letter and yours will be kept on file and turned over to the Idaho State Police and the Elmore County Sheriff should the matter continue. The complainant on this case just scribbled his name on the back of the title and it has not been filed with the state which actually does not make it legally his....
