I received a call from someone in Palm Springs saying they were attempting to serve papers to appear in court but could not at my place of residence for which they had the proper address or at work which they could/would not confirm a location When I asked what it was about they would not tell me as it was related to my Wife and not me They gave me an number to call and a case number saying that she was being taken to court I called the number and ended up speaking with a representative from this company who identified himself and that it was this company While the case was against my wife, he said I was also being sued due to the "common property law" for a credit card debt that has been in collection for four years When I spoke to them, they told me it was a certain credit card name, but they provided a different name to my wife when she asked They claimed they attempted to serve papers at the house that day They had also called my parents' home, her parents' home, her brother's home, my cell phone They called everyone but her He threatened me with liens on my property, cars, taxes and paychecks They claimed that we owed an amount of money, plus $1,in legal fees if we went to court, but I could pay them right then the already proposed settlement amount I was given hour to call them back with my intentions We ended up calling them back for more information and everything they kept saying could not be validated I told them I needed more time and he said I had minutes I ended up getting a copy of her credit report which had no such debt on it He then called back after he claimed he was leaving the office and pressured me again to pay When I said I would not be paying because I had no proof that this debt was valid He said ok, she would be served at her place of business the next day She was never served For being a legal services business, they don't seem to be very well versed in basic legal terminology When asked what court they were putting this through, they mispronounced the city name and said "city, county or whatever." I searched the Circuit and General District court docket and we were not listed This seemed like a scam to pressure me to pay money I could not verify as having owed I still cannot validate any of the information they claimed was accurate Additionally, when I call the number, they do not answer the phone like a business Someone picks up and states their name as if it was their personal phone line
I received a call from someone in Palm Springs saying they were attempting to serve papers to appear in court but could not at my place of residence for which they had the proper address or at work which they could/would not confirm a location. When I asked what it was about they would not tell me as it was related to my Wife and not me. They gave me an 888 number to call and a case number saying that she was being taken to court.
I called the number and ended up speaking with a representative from this company who identified himself and that it was this company. While the case was against my wife, he said I was also being sued due to the "common property law" for a credit card debt that has been in collection for four years. When I spoke to them, they told me it was a certain credit card name, but they provided a different name to my wife when she asked. They claimed they attempted to serve papers at the house that day. They had also called my parents' home, her parents' home, her brother's home, my cell phone. They called everyone but her. He threatened me with liens on my property, cars, taxes and paychecks.
They claimed that we owed an amount of money, plus $1,500 in legal fees if we went to court, but I could pay them right then the already proposed settlement amount. I was given 1 hour to call them back with my intentions. We ended up calling them back for more information and everything they kept saying could not be validated. I told them I needed more time and he said I had 15 minutes. I ended up getting a copy of her credit report which had no such debt on it.
He then called back after he claimed he was leaving the office and pressured me again to pay. When I said I would not be paying because I had no proof that this debt was valid. He said ok, she would be served at her place of business the next day. She was never served.
For being a legal services business, they don't seem to be very well versed in basic legal terminology. When asked what court they were putting this through, they mispronounced the city name and said "city, county or whatever." I searched the Circuit and General District court docket and we were not listed.
This seemed like a scam to pressure me to pay money I could not verify as having owed. I still cannot validate any of the information they claimed was accurate. Additionally, when I call the number, they do not answer the phone like a business. Someone picks up and states their name as if it was their personal phone line.
