The homeowner had a fire and contracted with us to fix the damages to her houseThe house was in substandard condition due to the age of the house, and from not doing proper maintenance. It had rotting wood on the exterior of the home around the windowsThe cabinetry in the home was of
several different materials, and some were painted and some were still raw. They also did not have doors on the upper cabinets in the kitchen. When a home owner has an insurance claim and we are contracted, we are only hired to fix the issues specifically relating to the fire loss. If the homeowner wants to pay extra to fix the non related issues, we can do thisIn this case, Ms*** hired us to repair the fire damage onlyHalf way through the job she decided that she wanted to try to make money off of the insurance company by completing the work herself and terminating our contractWe were in the middle of the job, therefore the work we were hired to do was not complete. Typically, in a construction job, you have the opportunity at the end to do a "punch list" and correct all the issues with any work that the home owner has. In this instance, she has told us to stop all work, and demanded refunds without allowing our subs in her home to correct the issuesThis is essentially double dipping, as we have already paid our contractors, yet do not have the option for them do any repairsAfter working through all of this with her and the adjuster, we thought that these issues were resolved, and all that was left to do was settle up monies owedThe original estimate and contract was for over $67,000, and after stopping, we adjusted our estimate down to around $43,My project manager running her job is meeting with her today, 6/7/18, to try to settle upI have attached our final estimate, her original list of complaints, and our responsesI am not sure why she is requesting $23,back in her complaint, as you can see in her list it only adds up to around $3,
