Sentry Fence installed a fence in the wrong locationDetail plans with marking stakes were discussed during Sentry's visit to quote the job.On July 16, 2013, Sentry Fence of Springfield, MA, owned by [redacted], installed only one side of an eight foot tall vinyl fence intended to surround our patio and perennial gardenThe vinyl fence was intended to upgrade from a wood stockade fence that was constructed by placing six foot high panels above a two foot high latticeUnfortunately, [redacted] did not install the fence posts in the desired location (approximately 12" back from the original fence) per our instructions that were discussed in detail and marked off with stakes during his visit to quote the job on or about April 17, Instead, [redacted] installed the fence posts in the exact location of the old posts, which was extremely frustrating as our definite intent was to expand the patio interior spaceAt least minutes were spent discussing the plans with [redacted] about the specific relocation of the fence posts during his visit to quote the job on April 17, No change orders were submitted to [redacted] regarding the original instructions to relocate the fence postsIn addition to installing the fence in the wrong location, the fence materials for our brand new fence were dumped haphazardly in our driveway on bare black top and on piles of dirt and mulch intended for the gardenAs a result, many faces of the fence panels have significant marring, scratches and black marks on themAdditionally, there are several significant deficiencies with the quality of craftsmanship: (1) the post holes to insert railings were hand cut by a router without using a template or straight edge leaving uneven and un-uniform cut surfaces, which display unsightly spaces around the railings; (2) there is a significant mistake in one of the railing holes where the router wandered perpendicularly to the intended cut leaving a significant and visible cut in the post; (3) the grooves for the lattice to be inserted into the posts are cut using a router without a straight edge guide leading to an un-straight and wandering cut; (4) the panel strips are not cut to proper length allowing a gap between the posts and panels, and several strips have unsightly bends on the corners; (5) pencil markings were left on the fence posts outlining the layout of plans to make the router cuts; and, (6) concrete used to set the post foundation is splattered on some posts above the intended grade of the soil showing unsightly concrete splatters on the posts. My wife and I attempted to discuss the above issues with [redacted] when he returned to the job the following day, July 17, He responded by saying that the posts are sunk in concrete and could not be moved[redacted] tried to fabricate an ad hoc change to the location of the subsequent fence line to be installed off of the fence that was incorrectly installed and this was unacceptableWhen my wife and I approached [redacted] about the craftsmanship issues, he told us to "get yourself another fence company"He then told his assistant to load up all of the remaining fence materials and hastily abandoned the job, refusing to speak to us and leaving us with an incomplete fenceThe portion of the fence that was installed is missing post caps, which are necessary to complete the aesthetic look of the fence and to protect the internal area of the posts from damaging weather conditions. As mentioned, [redacted] abandoned the job on July 17th refusing to discuss any potential options to address our complaintsWe then sent him a registered letter requesting a refund of our $depositHe received that letter on July 23, 2013, but we have not received a response, or any further communication from [redacted]Leaving the fence in the position that it is erroneously installed and altering our plan in order to accommodate the incorrect location is not an option that we can tolerate. We request a full refund of the down payment made in the amount of $1,816.75.Desired SettlementThe placement of the fence is a priority consideration in our plan as it is intended to expand the perennial garden area and provide aesthetically pleasing symmetry with the adjacent brick patioLeaving the fence in the position that it is erroneously installed and altering our plan in order to accommodate the incorrect location is not an option that we can tolerateOur disappointment with the faulty installation and poor quality craftsmanship is so great that we find no pleasure with the aesthetic nature of the incomplete fence in our gardenWe request a full refund of the down payment made in the amount of $1,in a check dated 5/7/and cashed by [redacted] on This will compensate our dissatisfaction and [redacted]'s refusal to discuss any potential resolutions.Consumer's Final Response Sentry responded by returning 100% of our downpayment
