I purchased an extended warranty in on a truck The local RAM dealer sold me an 84month/120Km extended warranty on the truck, the salesman told me if I didn't use the warranty I could get my money back at the end of the term In the truck was at 118Km so I decided to start the process of getting my money back The salesman then called back to say it was TOO LATE to claim the refund Turns out the month policy starts on the new car in service date that ended Octand I had only days from expiry to make the claim The salesman did not tell me the term started on the in service date and nowhere on the policy was that date shown The salesman and the Securedrive representative only said "too bad" that's the policy of the underwriter So after months the own has a window of month maximum to make the claim They also said the expiry date was on the contract page, but it was NOT He said, "Oh, that's the old printed copies, we do it by computer now and the date is on it." - no help to me On rereading the page fine print of the policy I found out I had to make the claim by "notarized letter"! Why? Also they would disallow any claim unless I had ALL service work done by certified shops, so if I had changed my own oil at any time they could disallow any claim
I fault the Parksville Chysler dealership insurance salesman for not pointing out these critical features of the policy before I bought it - what about fiduciary obligations of a sales agent I also fault the Securedrive company for offering a policy that is almost guaranteed to disallow any claim- either for damages or refund
Bottom line
