Review: I paid $300 to have Seaport Marine Insurance insure my car for loss or damage when I shipped it from Port Hueneme, CA to Saudi Arabia, where I teach at a university. The company that brought my car to Port Hueneme documented that there was no damage on the vehicle when it arrived, but officials in [redacted] documented that there was damage to the car's front bumper when I arrived to retrieve it (the front bumper was pulled forward and a weld was broken--it looked as though a towing cable had been attached to the front bumper rather than to the car's frame in an effort to move the car). I sent all of the required documents that I had to Seaport Marine Insurance, including government and private firm documentation on the car's condition in California in contrast to its condition at the Port in Jeddah to prove that there was no damage at the beginning of the shipment, and serious damage at the end of the shipment. I also provided pictures of the car and bids on a new bumper for the car. The best price that I found for the bumper+shipping was $1,405, and my deductible is $500, thus I want to be reimbursed $905 and I offered to pay for the labor myself.Seaport Marine first stated that they would not cover any of the damage, stating that the ship itself, the [redacted] A [redacted], did not create pre and post shipment survey documents, and that both are needed for an insurance claim. However, the company that delivered my car to Port Hueneme documented that there was no damage on the car, and the customs broker and the people at the Port in Jeddah documented that there was damage to the car. This is conclusive documentation, and if Seaport Marine will not fulfill any insurance claims without the insured providing additional, duplicate documentation from a source (the [redacted] A [redacted]) that would never have created that documentation the first place, then they are effectively just running an insurance scam. After this communication, Seaport Marine agreed to pay only $545.Desired Settlement: I would like at least $905 rather than $545. After soliciting bids, the lowest cost of a used, replacement bumper plus shipping for the car is $1,405. My deductible is $500, so $1,405 minus $500 is $905, whereas $545 is an arbitrary number. I have offered to cover the cost of the labor and a prospective rental car myself, and I wrote to the woman at Seaport Marine that if money is an issue, she can pay me $545 now and the remaining $360 in a month or two when she has it.
