Review: My fiance and I recently booked a 2 night stay at the Sea Esta Motel 1 for Friday, October 2 to Sunday, Oct 4. We booked this hotel due to it being a dog-friendly facility and we were planning to attend the yearly Golden Jubilee Event in Dewey Beach that was scheduled for that weekend. My credit card was charged half of the total at the time of booking, and then would be charged the second half when we arrived at the hotel. However, Hurricane Joaquin had other plans and due to the severe weather conditions, the Golden Jubilee event was cancelled as of Thursday, October 1. The hotel requires a 72 hour notice for cancellations but we realized with the storm and now nothing to do with 2 dogs in Delaware that it was best to inquire about cancellation. My fiance called Thursday and spoke with a female manager (we believe the name was [redacted]) about cancellation and refunds. The manager informed my fiance that we could cancel, but that we would still be charged for half of the total price. She continued to state that we would be fully refunded if Delaware went into a state of emergency. My fiance and I decided that evening to cancel our booking and hope we could obtain a full refund. On Friday, we saw that Delaware went into a "limited state of emergency" and that this applied to Sussex County. I called Tuesday to discuss what we were told and how this was to be handled for a full refund. The gentlemen I spoke with was kind and stated he was not aware of this arrangement but would contact his female manager ([redacted]) and get back to me. He called me back fairly promptly to inform me that [redacted] stated a "limited state of emergency" did not apply to their hotel and I would not be given a full refund. When I asked if Dewey Beach is part of Sussex County, he responded with "yes, but our road wasn't flooded and there's lines that apply with this type of emergency that did not apply to us".Desired Settlement: This entire situation is very concerning to me. The message I am receiving from this business is that they are more concerned about lucrative means, than the actual safety of their customers. We would have been traveling from Lancaster, PA to Dewey Beach, DE in a hurricane and how were we suppose to know the road conditions in DE. From the news reports, it did not appear like a chance we wanted to take. We would like this situation to be fixed by providing a full refund back to my credit card.
