On May 19, 2015, I had several email and phone conversations with [redacted] who is self-identified as “Sales Manager” of SDHQ Offroad I was interested in purchasing a winch mount and winch for my Ford F- I believed SDHQ to currently be the only vendor for the mount I was seeking because my truck is a new body style SDHQ was also recommending a specific winch due to the small space and accessibility of the winch once mounted This winch is among the highest priced of its type and was considerably more than I was planning to spend for this project However, after talking to [redacted] and doing some checking of other sources, I negotiated a price that included shipping to my location and made the purchase Within minutes of my credit card being charged, I received a call from [redacted] (I think that was her name) at SDHQ who said that there had been a mistake made and I would have to select a cheaper winch or pay an additional amount That amount was a 12.5% increase in the price already charged to my credit card I believe a mistake was made when I was first quoted a price, though it sure felt like (and may have been) a bait and switch I found it hard to believe that a company would ask the customer to pay for their mistake after the transaction had been made, but that is what was being asked of me I made a counter offer to meet in the middle and that was rejectedI could have pressed the issue with my credit card company as a breach of contract because the charge had been made to my card, but I chose simply to not spend my money with these peopleI cancelled the order Although it is hearsay, I have since learned that this company has a reputation of price gouging
On May 19, 2015, I had several email and phone conversations with [redacted] who is self-identified as “Sales Manager” of SDHQ Offroad. I was interested in purchasing a winch mount and winch for my 2015 Ford F-150. I believed SDHQ to currently be the only vendor for the mount I was seeking because my truck is a new body style. SDHQ was also recommending a specific winch due to the small space and accessibility of the winch once mounted. This winch is among the highest priced of its type and was considerably more than I was planning to spend for this project. However, after talking to [redacted] and doing some checking of other sources, I negotiated a price that included shipping to my location and made the purchase. Within 15 minutes of my credit card being charged, I received a call from [redacted] (I think that was her name) at SDHQ who said that there had been a mistake made and I would have to select a cheaper winch or pay an additional amount. That amount was a 12.5% increase in the price already charged to my credit card. I believe a mistake was made when I was first quoted a price, though it sure felt like (and may have been) a bait and switch. I found it hard to believe that a company would ask the customer to pay for their mistake after the transaction had been made, but that is what was being asked of me. I made a counter offer to meet in the middle and that was rejected. I could have pressed the issue with my credit card company as a breach of contract because the charge had been made to my card, but I chose simply to not spend my money with these people. I cancelled the order. Although it is hearsay, I have since learned that this company has a reputation of price gouging.
