DO NOT do business with this companyThey will low ball your quote and then hold your things hostage after they have picked them up and increased the original bid
Jack came out to our home and gave us a quoteIt was the most competitive so we chose SDC to handle our moveThe movers came (they were a third partySDC are middlemen) The movers themselves were wonderful and did an excellent jobWe were excited that things were handled well
Then we received a new invoice from SDCIt was over $more than the quoteNothing had changed between when Jack gave us the quote and the movers picking up our thingsIn fact we had sold more of our belongings prior to the pickup so we actually had less than when the quote was writtenJack tried to blame this on my wife and gave us a song and dance about how there was more than he was shown which was a complete lieHe was shown the entire houseHe then told us that he would send our belongings back to the house and we would be charged for the move to and from storage
There was no mistakeJack has been doing this for a long timeI wish I had seen the reviews before accepting the bidIn the end we were forced to pay an increased amountThey reduced the increased amount of the invoice by a couple of hundred dollars and acted like they were doing us a favor
If I could do it all over I would choose one of the other bids we received even though they were more expensiveIn my opinion Jack is dishonest and takes advantage of his clients once he has their belongings under his control
Avoid this company and save yourself the stress and headache
SDC was very professional and courteous in my move from California to the Caribbean I would use them again
We used this company to move from San Diego, CA to Toronto, ON, and are happy to recommend this company. Although there have been a few glitches which cost them their fifth star, we were very satisfied by the overall process.
It might sound odd, but we chose SDC because it was more expensive, had delivery estimates that were longer than other quotes, and longer lists of things they were not going to do... It simply felt like we'd have less surprises, and that we could more easily plan our move. We were right.
Prior to the move, [redacted] did her best to provide us with an accurate estimate. We did not really know what we'd have to move, and so I did my best. About three weeks before pick up, I had a better idea of what would happen, and sent her a new lest of things to pick up. It was more than my first estimate, and the new quote was 30% more expensive than the first one. It was probably my fault (although I am still under the impression that she forgot items on my list the first time around, but I did not check the quote carefully enough, so... my bad), but she felt bad and gave us a small discount.
The pick up was smooth, the movers were pleasant, professional, packed meticulously what had to be packed, and in general, they reassured us about what was to come, and how our shipment would be handled.
A few days later, the invoice came and this time around, the amount was as quoted. Note that the expected delivered time was estimated as 10 to 21 days. The invoice came 5 days later, which made the 10 day estimate completyely unrealistic from the start... Kind of a negative point here, but still OK.
Then, my main complaint is that they forgot to tell us that when flying to Canada, we'd have to tick a box on the custom form stating that we had unaccompanied goods. Might sound trivial, but not ticking this box means that a bunch of taxes, as much as 20% of the declared value, could be charged by Canadian customs. A really stupid rule if you ask me, but a rule nonetheless. In the plane, we did not understand this box, and did not tick it. A few days later, we realized our mistake, and stressed out a lot about it since we thought that we'd have to pay thousands of dollars. It turns out that many Americans do the same mistake as us and that Canadian customs are nice about it. But it all could have been very easily avoided, had SDC told us right away.
The delivery was handled by a contractor, and that went very well as well. It was delivered 22 days after pick up... One day after their most pessimistic estimate. Not great, but still OK. And I don't know who is to blame, SDC or the Canadian company.
Finally, SDC charged us a long carry fee: I wasn't sure of the distance, the deliverers would have to carry our stuff from their truck to our apartment. [redacted] proposed to charge it anyway in order to avoid bad surprises. The deliverers ended up not charging us this fee, and SDC will refund us this fee in the next few days. It's only $350, but they made absolutely no fuss about reimbursing it. Just an illustration of how easy it was to work with them.
So, as I said, not everything went as planned, but overall we were very pleased.
Sdc is the most attentive Caring and professional company I had the pleasure to deal with. Holly made sure I was getting all the information I was looking for, made sure that the price I was getting is fair and justified even took the time to go over all kind of other offers I got from other companies and clarified the meaning and the process thoroughly. This shipment was very important to me some of the items were inherited and priceless, it was very important to me to find the right company who will answer every specific demand I had and this guy's follow through from the time they picked up my cargo to the time it was delivered to my Door in Brussels Belgium.
