The customer came to us on November 3, 2014 and expressed interest in the 1999 [redacted]. The asking price on the vehicle was $2995,00; which included at no cost to the customer a 3 month/4500 mile powertrain warranty. After several discussions back and forth between the customer, his mother,...
and the sales manager, we agreed to drop the asking price to $2,750.00 and still include the 3 month/4500 mile powertrain warranty contract with a $100 deductible for the customer. The car received new inspection before it was given to the customer. Total with all fees the price the customer paid was $3,148.55. At the time the customer signed all paperwork. The customer contacted us on November 12, 2014 stating that the check engine light was on and that the left rear window was not operating correctly. We had the customer bring the car to us to diagnose. The car was diagnosed and the customer was called and informed that the vehicle needed a window regulator and a cam sensor. Customer agreed and said it was okay to do the work. The total for repairs was $387.91. The repairs needed were not covered by the contracted warranty so we repaired the vehicle, collected the $100 deductible, and the remainder of the bill was paid by Scott Schaeffer. The car was picked up on November 16, 2014. The customer never contacted us with any further problems regarding the vehicle. There is nothing listed in the letter that states what is wrong with the vehicle. We have been in business for 42 years and have always done our best to satisfy any and all issues a customer has had.

I’m confused
• You admitted yourself that this car is NOT drivable.
• Then you force us to get the repairs done at your shop, charging $1,500, based on 50% of the estimate, provided by an outside consultant.
• You were planning to charge us $1,500 without even looking at the car?
• Now you’re stating that the problem is only a loose bolt, while making derogatory remarks about [redacted] – an independent consultant on this matter
• As a professional business practice - one should not be making negative comments about another business
• This has been nothing but a horrible experience
• Nothing positive can be concluded
• Can you honestly provide any assurance that this car will not need additional service within a week or two or three, which you can’t provide, without some further excuses
• Resolution: Request a refund of $1,500.
The car is fixed and ready to go. The delay in answering was we wanted to check it for a couple of days to make sure it didn't leak instead of taking the word of [redacted]. Scott looked at it himself and found a loose bolt in the water chamber. He tightened the bolt and the leak stopped. You should be going after the shop that got this woman all upset telling her it would cost $3,000.00 to fix. So the car is fixed and can be picked up. If we hear or see any derrogatory remarks anywhere we will file suit or if there are any other problems contact our attornies at [redacted] and [redacted], PC, [redacted]

Review: I went to Scott Schaeffer's to get a chip in my windshield fixed, which they said they would be able to repair. While attempting to fix it, the chip got worse and spread. After this, I was told that it was irreparable and that I would need to get my entire windshield replaced. The cost of fixing the chip was $30, and since this happened while attempting to fix it, they would subtract the amount to get the chip fixed from the windshield installation (normally $199) bringing the total to $169. However, since the windshield got worse while they were attempting to fix it, I feel that they should be responsible for the full repair of the windshield for the initial cost of $30.Desired Settlement: My windshield fully repaired (or replaced) for the initial cost of $30.

Response:
We repair broken windshields when people bring us a stone damaged windshield, windshield is already fractured, we try to fuse the glass back together with a special resin before it cracks further. Our customers are informed via verbally and our sign that it could crack further before we are done because that is the nature of glass we have been repairing windshields since 1978 and sometimes this happens, when a windshield is fractured it is fractured. It is like when someone runs over a dog and the doctor tries to heal it but it dies anyway, is it the vets fault?
This man was not charged for the repair and was given a steep discount off the price of a new windshield. This is the first complaint in 35 years. Most people understand when you get a crack in glass it always runs, it is just a question of when. In my opinion this man is just anther someone looking for something for nothing

I am rejecting this response because of the attached explanation.
Dear Scott Schaeffer,
First off, I wasn’t looking for something for nothing. I went to the shop to get the crack in the windshield repaired, and I had all intentions of paying for it.
The issue is that went I first arrived at the shop, I asked if the windshield could be repaired. I was never verbally told that by attempting to fix the crack, it could spread even further. All I was told was that as long as the crack wasn’t bigger than a quarter (which it wasn’t), everything would be fine.
Yes, it’s true I wasn’t charged for the “repair”, but that’s because the crack got worse. While a discount was offered, it was for the amount I would’ve been charged to get the crack fixed. Overall, it would’ve been 15% off the price of getting a new windshield – it’s slightly fair, but by no means steep.
The point of addressing the crack was to prevent the spread of it, but because it spread, I will have to get the windshield completely
replaced. I’m still going to have to pay to get it fixed; however, the manner in which this came about (being told that it could be fixed and never verbally told that while attempting to fix it, the crack could get much worse) is the issue. Without knowing that beforehand, I feel it’s the responsibility of the shop to offer the windshield replaced for the amount I would’ve been charged to get the crack fixed, which would’ve been $30.
