Scott H. Scharf

I hired Mr. Scott Scharf to represent me in a personal bankruptcy issue. Included in the representation was to close down my business by filing the correct paperwork. I paid Mr. Scharf $500 separately for this from by personal bankruptcy. Mr. Scharf did not file the papers necessary to close down the business. I have tried for over a year to get Mr. Scharf to either close the business or refund the $500 and he replied only last week that he would do neither. For the past year Mr. Scharf did not return a phone call or a voice mail. It was only after I physically showed up at Mr. Scharfs business last week that I received an answer.Mr. Scharf advised me last week that he did additional work on the engagement and is entitled to the $500. Part of what Mr. Scharf stated in his email to me was that As a courtesy, I simply absorbed this additional time and did not bill you for the excess time and my out-of-pocket cost. I do not understand what courtesy he has provided since he has taken $500 that was given to him to close a business. This is over one year after he did the work. Mr. Scharf never communicated that he did any extra work during our engagement that would entitle him to the additional $500. Which was to specifically be used to close the business; and unjustly kept the money without performing the service we verbally agreed to. I have asked Mr. Scharf to schedule a meeting to review the $500 and his reply in an email states I do not think a meeting will be productive. I consider the matter closed.Mr. Scharf refuses to communicate (as he has done for over a year now) and will not give back the money.
