Wanted to practice lockpicking and wondered if this shop had the materials to do so. Yes, however when I got there, turns out that a clear acrilyc pin tumbler lock was priced at about $50. The picks themselves another $60. Search on online for the same practice kit and it will run you about $15. He was willing to throw in a leather carrying case for the picks and the whole package for $100.
As a brick and mortar store I understand the need for a markup in price in order to generate revenue, however a 600+% markup is out of hand. No brand name mentioned when asking about the kit that was for sale.
Upon posting a review on Yelp!, he replied with, '*** your mommas calling time to go back to her basement .hehehe'
His is in no way to respond to potential customers. Upon reading other reviews that were below a four star rating, he has left comments such as, 'smoke another one loser'. This is unacceptable. To demean and belittle customers that post their opinions and experiences so that the general public can do more research before spending hard earned money, or trying to grow their knowledge. Upon consideration, please read other yelp reviews that honest people have left, even the reviews that are not recommended.
Initial Business Response /(1000, 5, 2017/12/26) */
Products differ, counterfeits abound. We freely provide lifetime warranty's. We are experts on all products we sell and will explain aspects thereof. Scotland Yard The Spy Shop has been our baby for 26 plus years. I could have responded in a less emotional manner had the individual engaged me when I spoke with him in the store; rather than writing negative comments about our business prior to leaving our parking lot. Initial Consumer Rebuttal /(3000, 7, 2017/12/28) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The assumption that I wrote a negative response before I left the lot is incorrect. Also, and emotional response was not justified. If this owner has owned and operated a retail business for over 30 years, then he should know better than to openly mock and embarrass customers at the first glance of any negative comment or review. Instead, enforcing lifetime warranties and providing excellent customer service and rates are something he should be looking in to doing openly, instead of becoming defensive. Brick and mortar stores still exist to provide a few things that consumers can not find (usually) elsewhere; outstanding customer service and support.
I purchased a recording device from [redacted] on Saturday August 6th, at 5:50pm.I brought the device home and realized the product had no manufacturer information on it of any kind. I reviewed the operating booklet inside the box and realized it was very incomplete and that's what made me notice that was no manufacturer information where I could go online and try to get a more complete manual. The item is not functionable and I requested a return of my money on Tuesday Aug. 9th, in the afternoon, and was refused to be allowed to return the item for a refund even though it seems to be a black market item of some sort. I was never told that the item was not returnable and that it had no manufacturing information on it. I was mislead and scammed by [redacted] who I believe is the owner of the store.Product_Or_Service: August 6, 2016Order_Number: [redacted]Account_Number: NADesired SettlementI would like my money returned.Business Response A recording device was purchased by [redacted] on 8-6-16 at 5:51pm. It was explained to her that we warranty our product and will ensure it works properly; however, due to the nature of our products they may be used one time capture what was intended and never needed again, we do not give refunds and we have notices posted in the store to that affect. On 8-9-16 a friend of [redacted] came into the store requesting we give him a refund saying the instructions did not indicate how to replay. He was showed exactly where in the instruction book the information is. He did not want to see it an said he only wanted the refund. We asked him to have her contact us so we could go over the operations of the device. He left the store. On 8-10-16, she filed this complaint with Revdex.com and also contacted her credit card company requesting a chargeback on her card. We only use reputable distributors for the product we sell and offer a lifetime warranty on most of our products.[redacted] never contacted us directly after she purchased the product. Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.Thank you.
as a customer curious about a local store, I went in trusting I would be treated with respect. it was anything but that. I was pressured to buy things I did not want to buy. and the two devices I bought thinking were the great deal he was telling me I was getting turned out to be me getting charged more that $70 and $80 more than retail for the items. when I called to inquire I was threatened with being arrested, told I could not get my money back or any kinda of help regaining my lost. I was basically told I was screwed, I gave my money to them and would not get it back no matter how much proof I had that his business practice were bad. This experience has completely taken any and all trust I have had in my community away. This is america where your supposed to treat your neighbors with respect and dignity. Which I recieved neither. I dont know if this will help at all, I really hope it does. It should be illegal to buy something and then sale it to someone for triple the price. I mean come on its stealing. especially when the customer has to trust what your saying etc. please do something this kinda business practice is uncalled forWould also like to point out that on their website the use the Revdex.com logo, and when I typed in their business name on the Revdex.com website it tells me this business is not accredited. SO would u say thats false advertising?????Product_Or_Service: [redacted]Order_Number: [redacted]Account_Number: [redacted]Desired Settlementa simple refund would be sufficient, sanctions for illegal advertising of the Revdex.com LogoBusiness Response Due to the nature of our product line, items may be used once, capture the customer's intent and no longer needed; for this reason Scotland Yard's policy is "all sales are final". This is posted throughout the store and explained to each customer upon purchase. On 2-13-14, the customer called saying the item purchased DVRA8 was not compatible with his MAC. He was told it certainly was - what he needed to do was download a FREE app. and if he was uncomfortable doing it himself, he could call our manufacturer and they could do it for him via proxy. This made him angry saying we did not know our product and we were robbing him cause he could buy it on-line for $23.00. We attempted to calm him down and talk him through the download and explained that some products listed on-line are repaired and used items and/or not exactly the same product as we offer in store. Also our product has an in-store lifetime guarantee. This only seemed to aggravate further, saying he was going to make signs to picket the store and tell anyone passing by or potential customer that we are dishonest and no-one should purchase from us and he would try anything to ruin our business. He was then told that the remainder of the call would be recorded and he hung up in my ear. Also we paid a third party to create our web-site several years ago, at which time we were a paid member of Revdex.com. With economic times being severe we have been unable to keep up our membership. However, as it was brought to our attention on 2/20/14, the Revdex.com logo was removed from our web-site.
