I complained numerous times about the services provided, and nothing was done to correct this, and am now being sent to collections for full payment.
My daughter, Kyleigh*** utilized Scholars in Thunder Bay for majority of 2019. We had periods with breaks, and she went primarily for french tutoring.
In 2017 when we used scholars, I had complained to educators that Kyleigh's grades at school weren't improving, she felt as though she was unable to bring homework to scholars for assistance, and that I wasn't getting progress reports from Scholars. We discontinued the tutoring for quite a while because of this, but unfortunately needed tutoring for Kyleigh again so returned to scholars in 2019.
When Kyleigh was going most often in 2019 we were having two sessions a week. Kyleigh came home on approx. 10 different occasions in the fall of 2019 complaining that the only thing she did for the entire tutoring session was word searches. After about 3 weeks of this (6 sessions) I complained to the manager (perhaps her name was Lauren) and told her that we had noticed zero change in Kyleigh's grades in school, that Kyleigh wasn't getting any help with school work and that we were spending hundreds of dollars for Kyleigh to do word searches. It was promised that Lauren would speak with Kyleigh the following session to find a plan that was better suited for Kyleigh's needs. The following session Lauren didn't have time and we were charged yet another full price session for Kyleigh to do a word search. In the meeting with Lauren that I had - I also complained that Kyleigh repeatedly came home to tell me there were only English tutors and that on at least one occasion the girl didn't speak any french and had to use google to try to translate Kyleigh's homework. Again, Kyleigh attended scholars for french reading and writing. Lauren explained that french immersion tutors were hard to come by, and that they *** were trying to secure more solid staff. I provided an up to date school report card around this meeting (November) so Kyleigh's scholars plan could be adjusted accordingly, as there was no improvement in her grades at school and little advancement at scholars. Her learning plan wasn't being followed and she was sitting alone completing word searches. There were sessions where Kyleigh would return home and tell me the teacher didn't talk to her the entire period and spend the time working with the English kids at the table.
I addressed this again in December and received the following email from Lauren, acknowledging poor teachers, and referring to the word searches and the fact that the teachers needed to review the learning plan to stop issuing them. This was several weeks and several sessions after I addressed it with Lauren.
I sent a final email letting them know we would not be continuing after Christmas. I now have an outstanding invoice of $450.00 which equates to approximately 9 sessions. In at least 9 sessions Kyleigh did not receive a french teacher, could not get assistance with homework, or spent it completing the same word searches over and over again even after I addressed it with the manager. I am now being told I will be sent to collection at the end of this month if the account is not honored in full - but we did not receive the services we were promised by scholars, and I do not think I should be responsible for the (entire) cost of this invoice. It is unreasonable to expect I should pay the same amount as people whose children were actually getting tutored.
I have since had contact with Matt *** at the scholars head office who agrees and confirms I do not owe scholars money and that I owe it to the ***; however, the invoice is on a scholars letterhead.
Lauren has not responded to my email of June 30, and my account will be forwarded to collections on July 31. I do not have anyone else to contact other than Lauren regarding this invoice.
I currently have an outstanding invoice of $450.00 for 9 sessions. On at least 9 different tutoring sessions we complained of poor teaching, lack of teaching, lack of french tutors, and Kyleigh doing no tutoring work other than word searches for weeks at a time. I want the entire $450.00 withdrawn so the account is not sent to collections.
This issue has now been resolved with the previous owners.
