When Mr. [redacted] brought his truck to the shop he said his radiator was leaking. When we pulled his truck into the shop, we put pressure on the cooling system. The water pump was leaking. also witnessed this and confirmed that the water pump is what is leaking at this time and we could not put any pressure on it because it would just cause it to leak more and not build up any pressure. There was a trail of coolant on the floor from the water pump to the back of the truck. At the time of the repair the only thing leaking was the water pump. Again, we could not get the cooling system to build up any pressure because of the water pump leaking so badly. Also, the technician in the next bay witnessed this. The quality control technician has over 35 years’ experience, the one working on the truck has 25 years’ experience, and the technician in the next bay over has 20 years’ experience. Mr. [redacted] was told that currently, the only thing that is leaking is the water pump. He was also told that we could not get the cooling system to build up pressure because it was leaking so badly. Mr. [redacted] then agreed to make the repair to the water pump and declined the other items we found wrong with the truck. Mr. [redacted] approved the water pump repair for 1500$ on 6/7/2017 at 11:20 am. After that repair was made, we then put the system under pressure. The system would now build up some pressure and we found a leak at the radiator. We called him at this point and told him what we found. He said to not make the repair. When Mr. [redacted] came in to pick up his truck, we took him out to show him his water pump. We took him out in the shop and showed him that you could easily tell where the water pump was leaking out of the weep hole. There was obvious build up where the weep hole is on the water pump by the seal. It had coolant streaks, residue from coolant, and some crust build up. We also have pictures of it. We also showed him the trail of coolant from the water pump to the back of the truck on the floor, and that it was not from the radiator back. He did not care, he just wanted his money back, or to fix his radiator for free. Even after trying to explain to him that it was the only thing leaking at the time because it was leaking so badly we could not build up enough pressure to even test any other part of the cooling system. He would not listen to any of it. He did admit that he had someone look at it in Springfield, MO which is 5 hours away. This person diagnosed it as the radiator was leaking. He admitted to me that he has been using “Stop Leak” for a long time. He and his driver admitted to one of my Service Advisors that they had to stop several times to add water and stop leak on the trip from Springfield to here. Between adding a lot of straight water to an engine with an old water pump and not getting lubrication for the seal from antifreeze or coolant additive, this could definitely cause the water pump to fail in the trip here. Also, adding a lot of “Stop Leak” could have helped mask the radiator leak when we checked it and it could have masked the water pump leak when the other shop checked it in Springfield. The “Stop Leak” could have been some of the crust build up at the water pump weep hole also. After trying to explain all of this to him and him ignoring everything we said, I told him we would put the old water pump on, but if it leaked, he would have to pay us again. He declined this offer. We only do needed repairs at Scheffer Truck Service, Inc. We have an excellent reputation and this is why we have an excellent reputation. We have spent almost 20 years building this reputation. For this guy to try to ruin our reputation because he wants something for nothing is unacceptable. This guy is unreasonable and would not listen to a word we said. He just wants something for nothing. We will not give Mr. [redacted] any part of his desired settlement as he is no longer welcome at our facility and we will never work on any of his equipment again.
