Review: My dentist recommended that I have a biopsy done on my tongue. He referred me to [redacted], DMD of the Scarsdale Oral Surgery, PC. When I went to visit with [redacted] on May **, 2013, his office took all of my insurance information. He assured me that I would not need to pay anything out of pocket. He specifically said that if I received a lab bill in the future that I should ignore it and that the insurance will take care of it. I received my first bill from Oral Pathology Laboratory Inc. for $198 early in July. My wife called [redacted]’s billing office on July [redacted] on my behalf since I am ** years old and his office told my wife that they are working it out with the laboratory and that I can ignore it. I received my second bill from Oral Pathology Laboratory, Inc. on August [redacted]. My wife called [redacted]’s office again and they told her to ignore it and that they are collecting it from Medicare. I received a FINAL NOTICE from the Lab on August [redacted]. My wife call [redacted]’s office and now they said that we had to pay it and that they do not have anything to do with the lab. I spoke to Empire and they said that the doctor’s office should have requested an authorization. [redacted] is no longer with Scarsdale Oral Surgery and Scarsdale Oral Surgery is saying that they can’t confirm what he said. My daughter called [redacted]’s office and spoke to the Billing Department on September [redacted]. The Billing Department called the Lab and the Lab said that they would resubmit it with the Medicr. The Billing Department of the Scarsdale Oral Surgery office said that this will be taken care of by Medicare. On October [redacted], I received a statement from Oral Pathology Laboratory, Inc. saying that “the balance due is the patient’s responsibility as your doctor is not a participating provider with your health plan. “ [redacted]’s office is now saying that they did not realize that the plan “changed” and I have to pay the $198. The Billing Department personnel admitted that the office thought it would be paid by Medicare but that they were wrong in saying that. My daughter left several messages for the Office Manager but he never returned her call. I have been continuously misled by the Scarsdale Oral Surgery, PC. I want to file a complaint against Scarsdale Oral Surgery and [redacted].Desired Settlement: I would like Scarsdale Oral Surgery to pay the amount due to Oral Pathology Laboratory.

Please be advised that this patient [redacted] was advised of all fees by our oral surgeon, [redacted] when he came for his biopsy on 5/**/13. The fee of oral pathology to interpret the biopsy is a separate fee from ours. He has repeately called our office and been nothing but nice to our staff, we tried telling him that the fee is not from scarsdale oral surgery. As a courtesy yesterday I spoke with Oral Pathology and had the fee reduced to $70 from $189.00. When we called to tell [redacted], his response was they he is not paying anything. I think he has a lot of nerve accusing us when this is not our invoice. If you need anything else please let me know.
