Review: Santa Maria Novella (herein SMN), operates two brick and mortar stores in [redacted] and [redacted]. The [redacted] location is its flagship store. The [redacted] SMN refused to honor a return for a product (a fragrance which comes in an unsealed bottle, priced at $150) purchased as a gift in**, and subsequently sent to a [redacted] resident. An exchange was requested in-store in ** promptly within the 15 day return/exchange time window clearly outlined on their receipts. The product was unused and returned in the same condition received when purchased. The SMN representative in ** cited an "opened box" as a reason for disqualifying the return. When a ** representative was contacted for clarification, he cited a "health code" issue. -SMN, as a business entity, is not sufficiently transparent about its return policy. To arbitrarily/retroactively use an "opened" cardboard box as a legitimate reason to disqualify a return for an unused/untouched product, is both disappointing and unfortunate. Their receipt does not specify that packaging must remain intact. The product clearly cannot be accessed without its box being "opened." -SMN should not state that they offer returns or exchanges, if the company or its representatives do not intend to honor their own policies.-If there are real health concerns related to fragrances remaining sealed, SMN should make an effort to actually seal their products (i.e. the actual product). This concern is not mentioned in any shape or form on their return policy. Furthermore, the customer is unable to confirm whether or not the fragrance bottle is sealed without opening its cardboard packaging. -The response of the [redacted] SMN representatives, when presented with these issues were contemptuous and unprofessional.In order to resolve these problems, I would like to request store credit for the full value of the purchased product + tax) as guaranteed on SMN's return policy.Thank you,[redacted]Desired Settlement: A refund or store credit in the amount of $147.15 (purchase price + tax).A thorough review of customer service at The SMN [redacted] location, for their mistreatment of the recipient of the purchased product.
