Last summer in 2019 several *** residence noticed an increase in their water bill that was 3 to 4 times the normal. When calling the office, they indicated that we may have had a leak. We were told to get a plumber to check it out. All my pipes are in tack, NO LEAKS. My bill usually run's around $38 a month and one month in he summer it was $115. Asked for a refund and they refused. The next door neighbor app in our area EXPRESSED A LOT OF INDIVIDUALS SEEN A SPIKE IN THEIR BILLS. Nothing on the water companies end was investigated. This needs to be resolved because several customers were over billed.

***Response to Complaint #***To Whom It May Concern,Sangamon Valley Public Water District followed their standard process when responding to a customer who has a complaint about a high bill.1) We acknowledge that their bill and/or water usage is higher than average.2) As a Water District we own the Water and Sewer Main Only, therefore if there is any indication of a leak, we refer customer to contact a licensed plumber. We do not employee plumbers and our Ordinances do not allow for our employees to diagnose a leak, so we refers all customer's to professionals.
3) Should a licensed plumber find a leak, and said leak is NOT going down a drain (meaning sewer treatment is not required), we ask customer to send us a copy of the invoice from the plumber for proof of repair, and we issue a sewer credit (not water) based on the last 3 months average sewercharge.In this specific case, the customer claims that a plumber did come out, but was unable to identify a leak in her home. As such, we have no proof indicating that the water usage during the summer month in question, was not in fact used (whether intentional or not) by the customer, or by another person in the ***.
Please see the Meter Reading attachment for Ms. water meter at ***. Note that the meter reading has consistently been increasing, and has not stopped or reversed, indicating that the water did going through the meter at some point (whether intention or not). Should Ms. prefer to purchase a new meter, or new radio reader, we would be happy to assist her with purchasing either or both, but based off our meter reading system, her meter and radio reader are not faulty or showing any errors.Kind Regards,Sangamon Valley Public Water District
