The doctors in this group are contracted by *** Regional Hospital's emergency department and do not accept ***. My guess is they accept NO insurance of any kind. A five-minute consult with my husband, who presented at ER with a life-threatening medical condition, resulted in a $972 bill to my insurance company. Since the doctor is "out of network," insurance paid nothing. Out of pocket for the surgeon, who accepts our insurance, was $142. Something is definitely wrong with this picture. It's not as if we could select our doctor like we would in a non-emergency situation. I'm sure the doctors are tired of being stiffed by ER patients with no insurance, and not accepting insurance of any kind is one way to stay in business at the expense of paying customers, but there has got to be a better way. I am taking this up with ***, but beware that you most likely will pay the full charge for your ER doctor at *** or, at the very least, pay the balance ("balance billing") left after insurance pays.
The most likely cause of the out of networking denial by your insurance company was caused by your claim being improperly adjudicated by your *** and not the fault of Sandhills Emergency Physicians
Your insurance company probably processed your claim as a Primary Care Physician. The ER doctor is not a Primary Care Provider. You need to appeal your claim with the insurance company and have them re-process as an ER Physician.
I hope this information helps.
Sent to collections over a $23.16 bill that was ONLY mailed to me ONCE on March 22, 2019.
How does a business verify that if a statement was only sent once via USPS that it in fact reached the intended recipient? No attempt was made to contact or mail a second bill after the 22nd of March according to the phone representative (***). I additionally asked what was Sandhills Emergency Physicians financial policy on collecting debts and was informed that "usually" more than one bill is mailed however, that was not the case with my account. Is there no standard protocol for collecting past due accounts because it seems like a business such as Sandhills Emergency Physicians would have a standard and "usually" would not be an answer. I received this bill from the collection agency, ***, on 8/5/19 and immediately called and paid it via Sandhills Emergency Physicians customer service number.
I want to make sure this account is not negatively reflected on my credit report and that there are no additional charges added to this account via ***, INC for the debt collection.

According to *** Sr. Client Manager at Change Health Care Sandhills' Emergency Physicians billing company"We mailed statements on 3/22/19 and 5/6/19; the rep informed Ms. incorrectly regarding the statements"
After no response from two mailed statements the account was referred to our collection on 7/15/19.
The account has been paid in full as Ms. has stated. There has not been any fees added or any negative credit reporting by ***. Inc.
I was charged Out of Network for a service done at *** Hospital that is In Network. It is fraud to do this!
Date of service 2/18/2019
My insurance company was charged for my ER visit and it was determined to be out of network even though *** is in my network. When I called Sandhills Emergency Physicians to dispute the remaining bill the customer service rep said that there were many people calling with the same complaint. I think they are preying on seniors that won't advocate and just pay it which is fraud.
For the physicians to bill at in network when working at an in network hospital.

In response to the above referenced complaint, Sandhills Emg Phy has reviewed the patient account and data presented from patients' insurance carrier. We have determined that based on the explanation of benefits from the insurance carrier that the balance is correct.
The patients' insurance carrier processed the claim at an out of network rate. We have as of today on behalf of that patient issued an appeal to patients' insurance carrier to have claim reconsidered for additional processing at an in-network rate as the visit on 2/18/2019 was a result of an emergency. The patients account has been placed on hold pending a response from carrier. Sandhills Emg Phy will make every effort to work with patients' insurance carrier to resolve this issue in an effective and timely manner where applicable.
Thank you
