Review: We visited SD Pier Cafe on 07/27/13. I spent $143.20 there. Did not want to make the situatation any worse in front of my family then but decided to deal with this away from there. All my familys food plates were absolutely horrible. The service staff were arrogant and rude. I had requested Patron Tequila they served me a generic brand Tequila. Salads were warm and old. Soup was cold. My steak meat tasted awful, cold with veins all over the meat. It looked gray and uneatable. They described it as served with rice and vegetables. There were no rice and vegetables were all stale, cold and darkened. My son and daughter burger plates were cold and the meat probably was the cheapest ground beef they could buy like their steak. My wifes chicken plate was smelly and cold. I am just grateful we were not sickened by the visit there. Their [redacted] page is 100% full of our kind of bad experiences. We did not check [redacted] before we went in. They are taking advantage of tourists there because they will probably visit there just once. I am surprised health department has not closed them down. Every corner I looked I saw major health code violations, and that is just from the dining room view. It was a forgettable night except we spent a couple of hours of our life in there and irreplaceable. In paid with American Express card and they are refusing to refund my $143.20 for the garbage they served us. Need your help.Truly[redacted]Desired Settlement: I Need them to refund $143.20 back to my American Express card.

Response:
This is our response to Mr. [redacted]’s claim. He and his family were part of a large group celebrating
a birthday, which bill was over $800.00 dolllars. Mr. [redacted] claims the staff was rude and arrogant,
the group was served by two servers a busboy and a foodrunner, all under my supervision, as this was
a large group we pay special attention so as everything goes smooth and guest are taken care of. So
personally I was constantly aware of everything going on with the group. The staff was friendly and
extremely accommodating. He claims he was not served Patron tequila after he had consumed four
(4) shots of Patron Anejo Tequila. He belligerently accused the servers that is was not Patron, he was
then shown the newly opened bottle of Patron Tequila. He says his steak was cold with veins and it
looked grey, well a New York steak will have some veining and if the guest orders it well done like it was,
it will not be pink inside, it will be grayish. He claims the dish did not have any rice, but he was given
an additional side. He also claims his wife’s food and that of his children was bad, then why was the
food completely consumed and not brought to the server’s attention after the staff had checked with
the group numerous times (at least three times). He says he is grateful that they were not ”sickened”,
well if the food is good no one will get ill, which it was excellent. He claims he saw major health code
violations, well, we proudly display an “A” rating placard from the Health Department , that certifies us
as being complaint in every health code.
Here at the San Diego Pier Café we strive to please all of our guests, Mr. [redacted] failed to mention on
his claim that his Steak was removed from the check as was one shot of tequila, which we did as a sign
of good faith and to try to please him. Do you think or believe that if were as bad as Mr. [redacted] says
we are, we would still be in business after over 30 years (since 1980)? Or why the rest of the group did
not complained and thank the staff for their service?
I strongly disagree with all the comments Mr. [redacted] has made, as they are without merit.
Should you need a copy the itemized check please let me know.
Best regards,

Response:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
Regards,
The manager has become so defensive and writing so many words in the response getting away from the core of the complained. The food was miserable, the service was mediocre and I observed health code violations. The food and the service shortcomings are also documented in [redacted].com.
