I asked them to quote a rip rap wall for our play area which had an exposed earth hillside. Our driveway has rip rap and I told him I wanted the finished product to look the same. This rip rap is smooth, sturdy (I can climb on it) and the grout is thick. He gave the quote which we accepted. His crew was timely and cleaned up. The work though was very disappointing. I could see bare earth between many rocks. The rest of the grout was very shallow. The rocks didn't seem to be placed with thought as to how it would look. Several rocks that were broken in half had the rough side facing out. Many rocks were easily moved by a slight touch. I asked him to fix the area which he did, at no cost, as it should have been since his "end result" was not close to what I asked him to do. After the fix, there were rocks that fell out of the rip rap. A leaf blower dislodged other rocks. I asked him to bring his work up to the contracted expectation. He was willing to fix it only if I paid for labor.
