Dear Revdex.com:In regard to the complaint filed by [redacted], we have conducted an investigation. A municipality, our client, had referred some unpaid taxes for collection a number of years ago. Those tax accounts were long ago discharged in bankruptcy and...
duly noted as discharged in our records. There was another open account for services rendered by another client but those services were rendered after the bankruptcy filing and so that account was not discharged. This is where the confusion occurred. Following an evaluation of this incident, the collector involved was given more training in bankruptcy protocols and she is currently undergoing such re-training and review. We apologize to Ms. [redacted] for this misunderstanding. Our office policy is to never collect on debts discharged in bankruptcy. We are also currently reviewing our policies and procedures to ensure that this issue does not happen again. Further, we wish to assure Ms. [redacted] that her tax debts are permanently marked as discharged in bankruptcy and she has no liability. In regard to the other debt that was not part of her bankruptcy, the debt is considered resolved by our client and thus no longer a liability. It is our hope that this remedial action on our part will conclude this regretted misunderstanding.
