Poor quality work.
We hired Robert Geno to repair some slipped ridge cap shingles on our roof for $4500. Six months later, the same ridge caps have slipped again and Robert quoted us another $4800 to repair the same ridge caps. Robert clearly does not know how to repair shingle roofs and he refuses to stand behind his poor workmanship. At this point, I don’t want Robert to “repair” my roof, I just want other people to be aware of his poor quality work and his refusal to make good on his promise that his repairs wouod last “for “years”. Not true at all. If you are looking for a quality roofer, you should look elsewhere.

Correction to my comment above….Robert Geno clearly does not know how to repair slate tile roofs.

Services rendered were extremely poor and no willingness to resolve issuesRobert G[redacted] replaced two flat roofs and said he fixed a number of tile issues with my roof. After calling him out 2 additional times to fix problem areas that were sloppy and incorrect it was obvious the work his crew had done still wasnt right. A second roofer confirmed that no work had been done except what was visible from the street, and that the work that had been completed was not at all adequate. When confronted with the poor work and asked to refund some of the money, he asked for time to think about it and is now unreachableDesired SettlementRobert G[redacted]'s crew replaced the two flat roofs, therefore did some work. I am asking that he refund the money related to the tile portion of the work he performed, which I estimate at half the price of the workBusiness Response I was contacted by the customer to fix some issues on his roof. After looking at the roof, we agreed on a price to replace 2 flat roofs and fix some tile. We replaced both flat roofs and he was satisfied and paid us half the money. We then replaced broken tile on roof where needed including tile ridge caps that the customer did not have and I had to find them for the job. When we completed the tile work, the customer looked over the work and was satisfied. He then paid us the remaining balance. A week later the carpenters he had working on his house removed tile on the second story east side of the house. This was an area where we did no work or were supposed to do work on. We reinstalled these for him for free as a courtesy. He was very thankful to us and there was no mention of any problems at that time with the work we did. Then a week or so later he called and said he had a roof leak even though it hadn't rained. When we arrived he showed us where a couple of the tile were uplifted. He admitted he had another roofer on the roof. But the tile were not uplifted when we completed the job and we looked it over thoroughly before he finished paying me. He requested a refund of some of the money paid, but I refused on the grounds that he had another roofer on the roof before I could look at it and also the carpenters were still doing work around the house. I had already fixed some stuff for free that they had messed up before, how do I know who messed the tile up, but I do know they were not like that when I left. After I refused to refund part of his money, I left. The customer never called me on either of the two phone numbers I gave him. He did text me ONCE, and I have not heard from him till I received this complaint.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)A few clarifications to Robert's assessment of the situation:- After Robert G[redacted] had completed his initial work I had to request he come out 2 additional times to fix obviously faulty areas, including: an incredibly sloppy caulking job on the copper which could not be guaranteed as water tight, the rows that he had replaced were terribly crooked with SIGNIFICANT gaps that had been sloppily mortared (with dribbles of mortar left to stain the tiles beneath), the copper work was crooked and had to be replaced- Robert is correct that I paid him his amount because the work looked FINALLY pretty good, at a quick glance and after his third time on the roof. He did not offer for me to come up on the roof and look at the work he had done, so the only "looking over" of the roof was what I could see from the street / patio. After just a short time, though, it was obvious that the work was not correct, including a previously missed gap under a tile that was so large that daylight could be seen under it. Once I had noticed there were still issues I no longer wanted Robert G[redacted] or his crew to work on the roof because it was apparent they were causing more damage than good. I then asked for an assessment by a second roofer, who was recommended by the tile company, so I could have evidence to present to Robert, which revealed that there were many inadequacies with Robert G[redacted]'s work, including: NO NAILS HAD BEEN USED TO SECURE THE TILES THAT HE PLACED AGAIN, the caulking still was not adequate to keep out water around the replaced flashing, flashing between tiles and the flat roofs had been removed but not replaced during the replacement of the flat roofs, a portion of the decking was visible through holes in the roof and mortar in several high areas not visible from the ground was not repaired- I attempted to reconcile the situation directly with Robert, so I asked for him to come out to see a problem area. I explained that the work he had done is unacceptable per the representative of the tile company and another roofer in the area. In my discussion of the situation, I requested that only a partial amount of the total paid be refunded recognizing that he had done *some* work on the roof including purchasing materials. I had hoped that he would have been willing to meet me at least part of the way- He said that he would consider my request (he did NOT refuse to pay me), and after he left my property he has been unresponsive on the number that I had used many times in the past to contact him. I have tried to call him twice and text him 3 times asking for his thoughts about the situation with no response. I am not the vindictive type, so was hoping the matter could have been settled without involving and wasting the time of other agencies, but his unresponsiveness has forced me to use other avenues- After specifying several times that I wanted the roof to remain in the original style of the house and was willing to pay a premium for it, the replacement tiles he used OBVIOUSLY are not to the style of the original roof. After the fact, the tile supplier confirmed they still make that style of tile and would have been able to supply tile to replace the broken ones- Robert G[redacted] STILL has not provided me a list of the services and materials provided despite several reminders and his confirmation that he would provide it. He did not provide me with a receipt of amounts paid- Robert is incorrect in that he asked for half the amount up front, before ANY services had been rendered- Robert did send one guy out to the house to put down 6 existing tiles for free requiring 20min of his workman's time so my woodworkers could access some rotten woodIn retrospect I should have been MUCH more critical of the work he had done and the dollar amounts he was quoting me, but being new to this process, and his supposed expertise I felt that I could trust him to do even marginally good work. At this point I would just like to preserve the amazingness of the house I just purchased, so would like him to refund part of the money I paid so I can get someone else in to do the job correctly. Also, I hope this description is sufficient to show that I'm not blowing a couple of insignificant, isolated details out of proportion, but instead that there were many many things wrong with his business practices and his workmanship that would confirm the need for negative Revdex.com rating to prevent this from happening again. Included is the assessment by the other roofer noting several areas that were incorrect with Robert's workFinal Business Response
