Review: Road One Towing legally towed my vehicle. I called to set up an after hours appointment to get it out. I was told it would be $330.00 and to bring my registration. I told them it was in the vehicle. At my one o'clock appointment I showed my pink slip to the vehicle proving I was the legal owner, paid the $330.00, etc. I was told he needed the registration. I said it was in the vehicle. The clerk went to the vehicle, came back and said he searched it but it wasn't there. I called the agency that had the vehicle towed and was told it definitely was in the vehicle. The clerk insisted it wasn't and said that I couldn't look for it. Refused to release my vehicle to me. Transaction cancelled. I left and went to a registration store. Paid $44.00 for a duplicate registration since the DMV was closed. I called to make a new appointment. Was told to come between 4:00 and 4:15. Got there at 4:00 and waited and waited. No one showed up. I called and was told there was no appointment scheduled. Transferred to records and was told the appointment was put in for 4:00 am the next morning. Finally a clerk came. Now the price jumped to $505.00 to release it. Paid the money. I walked to my vehicle, opened the door and the registration was sitting on the dashboard. Driver Manager Brian (refused to tell me his last name) refuses to refund extra $175 or pay the $44 duplicate registration fee. I feel since they misquoted the total price of the tow, the $175 should be refunded. The duplicate registration fee of $44.00 should be refunded to me as well since the registration was sitting on the dash the entire time.Desired Settlement: I would like the extra $175.00 charge refunded as well as the $44.00 I paid for a duplicate registration.

Response:
I have received the customer complaint, reviewed our records and spoken to members of our staff and supervisors. At this point we can agree in part and disagree in part with the issues raised in the complaint. I have confirmed we did fail to locate the registration in the vehicle as indicated. The $175.00 fee in question is not revenue for our company. This is a cost recovery fee which is forwarded in full to the law enforcement agency having the vehicle impounded. All fees charged in this incident were correct and standard rates. These are same rates charged to everyone on this contract.
Review: Predatory towing tactics were used hours before a "Rock 'N Roll Marathon" in North Park, San Diego, the night of May 31st 2014. Towing signs were placed less than two hours before towing was to begin at 12:01am June 1st. Dozens of tow trucks towing two cars at a time. Citizens were forced to pay hundreds of dollars under duress as towing companies, including Road One (3333 National Ave San Diego CA 92113) held cars hostage. No proper notice was given for areas where unauthorized parking began. Signs placed after the fact. TOW states that the dispatcher was sent at 1:00am, however my car was missing before 12:52am, when I contact the SDPD number posted on the temporary tow away sign. I had reached my car earlier than 12:52am and was looking for it frantically. The times on the receipt are FALSE.Desired Settlement: Towing fees as stated in an itemized bill of sale:RD Vehicle Tow-Urban - $178.00 (quantity 1) amt. $178.00TICR - $54.00 (quantity 1) amt. $54.00RD Additional Mileage - $5.50 (quantity 3) amt. $16.50After Hours Gate Fee - $47.00 (quantity 1) amt. $47.00RD Hourly Storage - $5.50 (quantity 2) amt. 11.00Subtotal: $306.50

Each of the issues raised by our customer need to be directed to the appropriate offices of the City of San Diego. As indicated the vehicle was towed, released and the itemized charges were all correct.
