PLEASE SEE ATTACHMENT FOR ORIGINAL Please accept my sincere apologies for failing to respond to your attempts to reach me. This past Summer has been very hectic for me personally and professionally. The Weather this past spring put us behind in our commitments for several weeks into Summer, and filling manpower needs each year is extremely challenging. In addition, my mother passed away very unexpectedly, and as her only child, I've had to shoulder everything involved in settling her affairs. While none of this is intended as acceptable excuses for not responding to your contacts with my office, ask for your patience and your consideration.it is my intention to call you next week by mid-week to arrange a meeting with you to review your needs and get the work scheduled, I hope this meets with your approval and that we can work this out to your satisfaction. Thank you.Sincerely,RL HARRISON, LLC[redacted], Owner -
In response to **s. [redacted]’s complaint, I would like to point out that R.L. Harrison Paving is built upon 3 generations of family, giving the company a vast knowledge base of experience in serving their customers in the paving and construction industry. We didn’t get this reputation overnight. It was earned over the span of the last 60 years by providing our customers with a quality product in a timely fashion while meeting or exceeding industry standards. That being said, on Saturday April 15, 2017 myself and the Supervisor in charge who was onsite at the time the asphalt work was originally done went to visit **s. [redacted] at her residence. We listened to her concerns and attempted to address each of them. The gate she spoke of not opening freely was adjusted by us to allow it to swing open freely in both directions.. A homeowner should expect such situations with gates and fencing when an additional 1 1/2 of asphalt is added to the surface. Nonetheless, we raised her gate to the proper height. She also spoke of water puddling in certain areas of the asphalt. We observed an area approximately 22 inches by 24 inches where water was puddled about as deep as 2 quarters stacked together. To remedy this situation we will provide free of charge upon written request by the homeowner, patching that should help with such issues. **s. [redacted] also charged that there were areas in the asphalt that had cracked, specifically near the edges. Cracking will occur in any asphalt surface. She had the driveway seal coated by another contractor who did not apply any crackfill prior to sealing. This is the proper remedy to address any cracking in the asphalt. We as a rule, tell each customer upon completion of the job that they will need to backfill along the edge of the driveway to fill in any troughs that may have developed during construction. That was never done by the homeowner. She also charged that we were never at her residence on March 15th. She accused my supervisor of lying to her about that day. Not only was he there on March 15th, he has photographic evidence that he was there for approximately 30 minutes. Those are the photos that we uploaded in our initial response. We have made considerable effort to appease the homeowner, doing things we were not even required to do. Our position is that we installed a quality product in a timely manner and that the homeowner received exactly what she paid for. I would also like to point out that most of the information above is available anytime by going to our website. We include many tips on how to maintain your driveway once the job is done. This information was certainly available to the homeowner at her leisure. I have taken the liberty to provide a sample of what can be found on our website and it reads as below: The following are excerpts taken directly from our website at rlharrisonpaving.com Avoid driving on the edges of your driveway. The edges are weaker than the rest of the driveway and will crack and crumble. Build up the sides of your driveway with topsoil to support the edges and plant grass to improve your driveway's appearance. Because blacktop is made of various sizes of stone, sand, liquid asphalt, and other ingredients, the surface of your driveway may look smoother in some places than others. Also, areas that have been raked and spread with hand tools may have a different texture than those spread by machines. As temperatures rise and fall, your asphalt driveway will soften and harden. If you want your blacktop to stay hard during heat waves, simply spray it down with cool water from a hose. If soap suds appear, this is a normal reaction between the diesel fuel in our blacktop and chlorine in city water. Some puddles may also arise depending on the slope and drainage.
