I was referred to Retina specialist of Michigan by my doctor. My second appointment I had a scan test. At the time I was informed I needed a laser procedure. I asked if my insurance company would pay for it. I requested a pre authorisation. they checked and said it was covered. I received a bill a few months later. I was not happy because I feel I was taken advantage of. I offered to settle the bill for $200 and I didn't hear anything from them. The bill has been turned over to collections.
Billing Adjustment A bill adjustment and credit report repair.
Hi ***, thank you for speaking with me yesterday regarding this issue. As I mentioned, this procedure was approved by your insurance company, which means they are simply giving you the ok to have the procedure; however, you do still have a deductible with your insurance company that you had not met at that time, therefore, the balance you were billed was the amount your insurance company applied to your deductible. Getting an approval/authorization from your insurance company does not mean you will not owe anything for it. We are able to set up a monthly payment arrangement with you if you would like. If so, please contact our office.
Thank you again.
I am not satisfied with the answer *** from retina specialist provided. I requeste pricing before the procedure was performed and I was told the procedure was covered. I was mislead. I explained had I would have received pricing prior to the procedure I would have waited and contacted the insurance company myself.
Hi ***,
As I explained previously, the amount that you were billed from this visit in 2017 is your insurance deductible. This is an agreement with your insurance company that you agreed to when you signed up for your insurance. A deductible is a specific dollar amount your health insurance plan may require you to pay out of pocket toward covered medical care each year, before your health plan begins to pay for covered medical expenses. Our office checked to make sure this procedure was a covered benefit, which it was; however, if you have not met your deductible for the year, unfortunately there is nothing we can do about that amount. If you would like to make monthly payments I can assist you with that.
