Rent a Wreck Oasis/Priceless

Review: I rented a cargo van on Saturday, April 19th, 2014. The rental agreement was for a 24 hour period to be returned on Monday, April 21 since the business was closed on Sunday, April 20. I was informed that the vehicle was " not pretty to look at, but in sound mechanical condition". The vehicle interior was in disarray and the doors stuck and were difficult to open. As I was driving, a beeping sound began intermittently. The sound was similar to when one does not put on their seat belt, however both the driver and passenger seat belts were properly secured. I called the office to inquire about the beeping sound and was told not to worry about it and that the vehicle had just been through a maintenance. I drove approximately 72 miles to my destination in [redacted] PA. The vehicle was loaded and I resumed a return trip. While crossing the route 95 bridge connecting PA/NJ, the vehicle lost all of its power. I was able to just glide in neutral to the shoulder. The shoulder was in a very dangerous busy merging area. I tried to contact the number on the rental agreement, but was not successful. I was never given an emergency contact number. Since I have road side protection from [redacted] I called them. Initially, I thought we needed gas since the gas gauge was not working accurately. [redacted] bought a gallon of gas and I was charged $8.00. It turned out that the gas was not the issue. The [redacted] technician tried to start the van, but it would not start. The vehicle needed to be towed to our home. The cost for the tow was $57.00. I have been in contact with customer service requesting a refund for the cost of the rental ( $67.00) and a credit for the towing fee. It is obvious that we were given a defective vehicle. Essentially , I have been told that all costs are my responsibility. I am not satisfied with this outcome and believe they have negated on their terms since I was not able to complete the trip due to the faulty maintenance and care of this vehicle.
