? Our member made a purchase from a company using
his REGIONAL debit cardUnfortunately, the member noted the transaction amount had been posted two times to his
accountThe member notified the
credit union and the credit union instructed the member to reach out to the
merchant as this is
typically the
fastest way to resolve this type of issue and required to initiate a dispute
The merchant disagreed that the
account was double charged so REGIONAL completed and submitted the dispute paperwork to our dispute/fraud departmentThe
dispute process can take up to days if the merchant feels they were not in errorIn this case the merchant
initially disagreed with the member and
the dispute was elevated to an arbitration statusThis process is mediated by
the Visa systemVisa reaches out to
the merchant and requests documentation supporting their claim, in this case,
that they only received one payment
The merchant then has days to respondIf the merchant cannot provide adequate documentation within days, the
case is closed and Visa settles any outstanding fundsOn April 24, the
merchant's day window expired without notification to Visa therefore Visa pulled the funds from the merchant and
credited our memberThe timeline described above, while lengthy, fell within the regulations. The member's account had not been reporting to the
credit bureauWe were informed that our credit card has not been reported in the member's Trans Union credit file since
2013, when a member initiated dispute
was originatedThere was no documentation of a response to this dispute, so
the credit card was removed from his
credit bureau file completely per regulationIn researching this issue, we were
given instructions to request to manually reinstate the card and begin
reporting to Trans UnionThis process
is in progress at the time of this response.Should you have any additional questions, please
