regarding complaint #[redacted] filed on12/15/2015. In the complaint, it is stated that someone has paid our agency for a background check, and she has not received it. It is my belief that the wrong agency has been named in the complaint. At your recommendation, I am stating why I think this is true via email. RESA 8 is a Regional Education Service Agency. We are not a background check company, and we do not advertise ourselves as such. We do hire individuals and require some of them to have background checks through [redacted] to obtain teacher certification or through [redacted] to work with children. However, when a teacher candidate is sent to [redacted] for a background check for certification, applicants make their payment to [redacted]-Trust, and reports are sent directly to the West Virginia Department of Education. Background checks completed by [redacted] for our Head Start program are at no cost to the individual. RESA 8 does not collect money for background checks or provide background check reports to individuals. Additionally, we have no record that the person filing the complaint ever applied for a position with us or that they attempted to contact us at any time. Again, I believe there has been an error in naming RESA 8 in this complaint. If any further information is needed to resolve the issue, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
