Here is a letter I sent to this stealership that explains our terrible experience with them.

To the manager or owner of Red deer motors

Last week I was interested in one of your trucks and we drove 3 hrs one way to come see the truck. We were very turned off by the fact that the dash was full of dog or cat scratches and also the deck and undercarriage was spray painted black over top of all the rust and dirt. I obviously decided not to purchase that truck and my wife and I remarked to each other that the only way you would be able to sell that truck would be over the phone. (Which we found out later is exactly what happened)

There was however another dodge 5500 that caught our eye and we briefly looked at it but found out that it was not available as someone was actively working on purchasing it.

The next day we got a call from Gord asking if we would be interested in purchasing the 2023 dodge 5500. I said I would need to think about it.
After about 2 hrs I called Gord back to let him know that we would like to purchase it, only to have him tell us that it was no longer available… but he said he would double check again and call me back. He called back rather quickly and said it was still available as the other guy from BC I was told had not yet put a deposit down. I gave Gord our credit card information and paid a deposit of $2500.

After I put a deposit down on it I decided to do some investigating in regards to the price of a brand new truck as we were told by Gord multiple times that the truck brand new was worth between $160,000-$170,000.
I called around and priced out the exact same specs on the truck and the exact same hillsboro aluminum deck.

The exact same truck brand new of the lot today was $104,000+gst and the deck is worth $16,500 installed Which would make it $120,500 +gst.
The asking price for your truck is not bad but it was a huge turn of to have Gord misrepresent what the cost of a truck like that is worth brand new.

I realized I could no longer trust anything that Gord said and I decided not to go ahead with the purchase of the truck. Listed below are the three main reasons.

#1 Misrepresenting the cost of a truck like that brand new.

#2 Our previous experience from the day before with the truck with the scratches and the spray painted underbody and the deck that looked very rusty except for the fact that it was mostly hid by the black spray paint. (Very poor business practice in my opinion) (Gord also triumphantly told me that that truck was sold over the phone to someone up in La Crete. I honestly feel sorry for the guy as your pictures on the website cleverly omit some important information in regards to the flaws of that truck)

#3 The day I had said I would transfer $50,000 towards the truck I still had not received any written agreement for the total price of the truck.
With the fact that my trust and confidence was already destroyed in your dealership I could just imagine that the agreed upon amount would not be honoured and that you may just move the goal posts so to speak or add some additional fees. I decided that I would rather risk loosing my $2500 deposit than get screwed over by a very dishonest dealership.

I know that you are not obligated to refund me the deposit money of $2500 that I paid, I would however definitely appreciate it. Given the circumstances I kindly request the return of the $2500 deposit.

Contacted red deer motors thru car gurus, I was pleasantly surprised to receive the requested carfax within 5 minutes. I received a call from Gord Robertson. He explained that the car had just arrived and that he suggested I test drive before the inspection as he assured me it would be even better after they had completed the inspection. I arranged for a test drive. The car drove fine and completed the purchase which went very smooth. I picked up the car a couple days later and sure enough they did a fair amount of work during the inspection. Some things I thought they certainly wouldnt do. You hear so many horror stories of dealing with a salesman but I can honestly say Gord was fantastic to deal with and would definitely recommend hjm and the complwte dealership. Chad in finance was also a pleasure to deal with and there was never any pressure from anyone to purchase the vehicle or addons. They did a great job.
