Red Caboose Motel

Review: I reserved and paid for a "2 Double Bed Caboose" room at the Red Caboose Motel on April 20, 2013 through the motel's web site.

I and my family arrived at the Red Caboose on Saturday evening, May 25, 2013. The key I was given for the "2 Double Bed Caboose" was for a compartment within a mail car and without windows. When I asked the clerk and the manager why I was not given a caboose they stated that assignments to cabooses and the mail car are made at random each day and that what I had printed on my reservation was meaningless. When I explained that my grandchildren had come from South Carolina expecting and excited to sleep in a caboose and were now going to sleep in a windowless compartment of a mail car the manager was unconcerned and unapologetic.?

I was essentially told "take it or leave it." At 8:30 p.m. and with little knowledge of the area I had little choice but to take the accommodations offered.

I note, also, that the mail car had no thermostat and no way to control the room temperature, which was too high. As there is no one on duty at night in the Red Caboose Motel office, my son-in-law called the emergency number provided by the motel and was told that the temperature would be lowered. It was not, and the exterior door to the mail car room had to remain open all night to maintain a reasonable temperature.Desired Settlement: I desire a written apology from the Red Caboose Motel management. Also, if the management believes that I did not get full value for what I paid for, a partial refund as they conclude is reasonable.
