Review: My husband got military orders for us to move from NC to MS. We used the military referral website (ahrn.com) to look for a house. RBR had one listed, [redacted]. Everything looked good but it only had one photo. I corresponded via email numerous times with [redacted], owner of RBR with questions & request for more photos. He wasn't timely but he finally sent 3 cell phone photos. We were running out of time, never looked for a house online before but trusted the referral site. We signed a lease with exception that stated final decision would be based on walk-thru. The only way he would hold the property was the deposit $1375 & first 1/2 months rent $575 which we paid. We drove from NC in 2 cars with kids & pets in tow arriving at the house on 07/26/13. We let [redacted] know, he could not meet that day but said back door was unlocked. We were shocked to see the condition. It was filthy with visible mouse droppings, roaches & urine on all toilets that started to mold. There was so much wrong with this house we took almost 300 photos. We booked a hotel rather than staying there like we planned. [redacted] wasn't able to meet us at property until late afternoon on 07/27/13. We started pointing out issues with the house & barely 3 minutes into the conversation, he said we didn't have to rent it. My husband [redacted] said we'd like all money back & [redacted] agreed. He didn't have a check on him but said to call him Monday (29th)to meet. It's legal in MS to record a conversation w/o the other party's knowledge if its in person. We did record this conversation. We called & emailed [redacted] all day with no response. Tuesday (30th) I emailed again stating I'd escalate this in which he replied that he was consulting with his attorney. We have not heard from him since. The military offers legal but we still have to pay. We cannot afford since we're out that money, plus 5 days in a hotel & funds for new rentalDesired Settlement: We would like a full refund of our deposit & rent paid, in addition to reimbursement for two of the 5 days we were forced to stay in a hotel. The military only reimburses for 3 days.
