The problems with the exhaust fan was not caused by the cleaning
R&T Hood did everything reasonable to help resolve ***’s concernsThe difficulties with the air flow were caused by wear and tear to the fan and uneven air balanceBelow is a breakdown of the events
*** *** of
***s hired us to perform the Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning on August 20th, which we did, with photos documenting that the work was performed it to NFPA Standards. During the follow up call the next morning we were also told by *** W*** that the cleaning looked good
Then on August 22nd we received a complaint that the hoods were not pulling as much smoke as they were supposed to and that she now thought we had not done a proper cleaningOur Quality Control Technician was dispatched on August 24th, to inspect the cleaning and to inspect the system and to recheck for any obvious deficiencies related to the air flow or our work. He verified that all was well and seemed to be running normally
A few weeks later, *** *** then complained of a vibration from the fan and that it was still not pulling enough air. Our Operations Director along with our Fan Repair Technician determined that there was a pulley on the fan that wasn’t roundThe worn out pulley was the source of the vibration. In addition, they determined that the hood wasn’t drawing properly due to insufficient maair. The restaurant is in negative pressure due to lack of maairThere is no air for the hood to suck out. We advised that they need an HVAC company to balance the three systems: Exhaust hood pulling out smoke and vapors, maair providing 90% of what the exhaust hood is pulling out, and the furnace/ air-conditioner providing positive pressure in the dining area, feeding the hood the last 10% of what it is pulling out, so the smells from the kitchen didn’t encroach into the dining areaWe informed *** that this is a mechanical issue and must be performed by a HVAC contractor
September 16th we replaced a fan belt at a ***’s per an employee request. This is an additional service unrelated to the air-flow or vibration issue.
A full six weeks after the cleaning was performed *** had an HVAC company look at the fan and found greaseAccumulation of grease is expected after several weeks of usage in a commercial kitchenIn addition, there is no such thing as an exhaust fan “imploding”.
Unfortunately *** was sold a new fan instead of just the pulley needed
***’s problems were due to wear and tear and the need for maairThe billing is more than fairR&T made several trips out at without charge in order to try and helpThe only charges were for the cleaning and the fan belt replacement.
The invoice is valid and must be paid in full
Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because: I had a rep from a company in Portland go up on the roof ( for free and RT's untrained "professionals" had neglected to put the screws back in holding fan Techs DID NOT verify that e erythema was OK when tney came back to light pi.OT light, but I did tell them about some additional items they "forgot" such as cleaning & reinstalling drip pan, and cleaning up grease around grillSincerely,*** ***
R&T Hood and Duct Services strives to provide an excellent service for our customers. Occasionally there are problems at the end of a cleaning and we always try to fix them. After the cleaning at [redacted] on 5/25/15, the technicians forgot to relight the pilot lights on the fryer. The...
customer called the technicians and they came back and lit the pilots. At that time they confirmed with the customer that everything else was good with the cleaning. The following day, the bartender at [redacted] called and spoke to Adrienne at R&T Hood and told her that the fan was making an unusually loud noise. Adrienne told the bartender that the technicians hadmentioned to her that their fan was louder than usual. She explained to the customer that if the fan was now making an even louder noise it was most likely a result of the cleaning, but that is not a guarantee. Adrienne offered to have the fan technician come out and perform a fan diagnostic. If the noise was caused by the cleaning, such as the fan not being positioned evenly over the duct, there would not be a charge. But if the noise was systemic to the fan, such as the bearings wearing out or the isolators needing to be replaced, then there would be a service charge. Our normal fan diagnostic fee is $102.35. The bartenderwas not satisfied with this solution and she had the owner, [redacted] call R&T. Adrienne offered the same solution to [redacted] that she had offered the bartender. When [redacted] was concerned about the potential untruthfulness with of our diagnostic, Adrienne suggested that [redacted] go on the roof with the technician so she could watch the work that was done. [redacted] did not feel she could do that.Settlement:[redacted] picks a person that she trusts (ie. bartender/friend) to go on the roof with our fan technician and watch the diagnostic as it is being done. Then there will not be any disagreement on what is causing the fan noise. If the fan noise was caused by the cleaning, there is no charge and we will fix it. If the noise is caused by normal wear and tear then we will charge the standard fan diagnostic fee. Fan damage gets much worse with time. If we are not able to perform the diagnostic by the 6/12/15 then this offer expires.
