Without a release of informationI am unable to discuss specificsHowever, I can explain our self-pay policyWhen a self-pay patient presents for service, it is typical that we would collect the estimated cost of the visitWe offer the patient a 20% prompt pay discount for payment at the time of serviceThe estimate that the patient is given often does not include any ancillary services such as labs, x-rays, etcbecause we cannot always accurately anticipate what these charges are going to beThis is a especially true when outside lab charges are involvedTherefore, it is not uncommon to have additional charges over and above the cost of an office visit when a patient also receives lab or x-ray servicesAccording to the Customer Experience Information sheet, the service provided was for the removal of mole and skin tagNormally, in the case of a skin tag and/or mole removal, specimens are sent off for pathologyThis would result in additional charges being incurredHowever, because of this, we extend the prompt pay discount to these additional services as long as they are paid upon receipt of the first statementIf I can be of further assistance in explaining our policy, please contact me at [redacted] *** Sincerely, [redacted] Coordinator, Customer Service

service. The estimate that the patient is given often does not include any ancillary services such as labs, x-rays, etc. because we cannot always accurately anticipate what these charges are going to be. This is a especially true when outside lab charges are involved. Therefore, it is not uncommon to have additional charges over and above the cost of an office visit when a patient also receives lab or x-ray services. According to the Customer Experience Information sheet, the service provided was for the removal of 1 mole and 1 skin tag. Normally, in the case of a skin tag and/or mole removal, specimens are sent off for pathology. This would result in additional charges being incurred. However, because of this, we extend the prompt pay discount to these additional services as long as they are paid upon receipt of the first statement. I am rejecting this response because: $239.79 was paid in cash on the actual day of service. This figure was supposed to include everything and the discount because the bill was paid in cash and no insurance claims were being made. Approximately 1 week later I received another bill requesting another $20.54 for lab costs because (as I was told by [redacted]), they forgot to include lab charges. I paid the $20.54 with check #[redacted] on 8/15/2016 and then [redacted] (the receptionist at [redacted] Canton, MO office said the bill is now paid in full. Because of already paying twice, this bill should be paid in full. I was told by [redacted] that is was paid in full on 8/15/2016.
Sincerely,

I wanted to respond to your September 29, 2016 correspondence. There would typically be three parts to the charges for a skin tag and/or mole removal. The first is the charge for the actual procedure, which in this case was $239.79 with the prompt pay discount. In the event that something is sent to pathology, there would be a second $20.54 charge for the outside lab handling fee. Finally, there would be additional fess for pathology. The number of charges for this can vary depending on how many specimens were sent for testing. There is often a delay in billing pathology fees because these go through an outside lab. We must wait for the lab to bill us before we can pass the bill onto the patient. As explained previously, we do not know what these charges are going to be at the time of service. I apologize for any misunderstanding, but the charges for 8/10/16 date of service have not been paid in full.
