Patient was seen in June 2013 as a new patient.
On this day, she was informed that the doctor she was seeing was NOT a participating provider with either of her insurance plans.
We agreed to honor our new patient flyer special we were running for $89 for her cleaning. At the bottom of the new patient flyer, the following is clearly stated:
“We reserve the right to submit for insurance reimbursement to the doctor for exam, consultation, and x-rays”
The balance that the patient paid in January 2014 was the difference between our fees (for treatment rendered in June 2013), and the amount that the insurance company allowed as out-of-network benefits for those services.
Numerous attempts were made between June/July of 2013 and the present to contact the patient regarding her balance prior to a handwritten letter being sent in December 2013.
