Review: On May 19th 2014 I took my car to Pro Muffler & Brakes in midway city, ca to have a major tuneup. I was charged $285 for the services done by the attendant named [redacted] After I paid the bill my son and I left the shop and drove not more than a mile down the street and the car died and would not start again. I called AAA and had them tow me to a approved facility, Sunrise Automotive in westminster, ca to have another shop inspect my vehicle since I did not feel comfortable taking it back to the place I originally had the work done. After spending another $90 at Sunrise Automotive for a diagnostic test I came to find out that my vehicle that had just gotten a tuneup(which includes an oil change) had absolutely no oil in it causing the engine to freeze up. I was told that there appeared to have been an oil filter change but appeared to not have been given oil. There was no residue or leak that would have caused the oil to leak out of the vehicle. When I called the original shop, Pro Muffler, [redacted] informed me to return to his shop with my vehicle for further inspection. After returning to the shop and speaking with [redacted] about the incident he stated that the engine being frozen due to lack of oil was not his fault. He stated that for all he knows the vehicle must have been tampered with after it left his shop. I feel this should be further investigated for there is no way a vehicle that just received a tuneup could be bone dry from having any oil causing the engine to freeze. Depending on the outcome of the investigation I feel Pro Muffler & Brakes should be financially responsible for the damages.Desired Settlement: I feel Pro Muffler & Brakes should be held financially responsible for any damages.

Dear Sirs:
I have been a professional car mechanic for the past 30 years, and have owned my shop for more
than 24 years. Throughout my career, I have always endeavored to provide honest, efficient and
good service to all my customers, and I have never had a situation similar to the one complained
ofby [redacted].
I am enclosing with this letter, the letter I sent to [redacted] Briefly, shebrought in
her car for a tune-up complaining that it sometimes died and won't start again. I explained to her
that a tune-up would not fix that problem, but she insisted on having the tune-up done.
Additionally, the brakes on the car were in very bad shape and I informed her of the problem but
she did not want any work done claiming that she is use to it. Finally, after I changed the oil
and fastened
the bolt, I marked it, as is my practice, so that there would be evidence if the bolt was
unscrewed. Shortly after leaving my shop she called me to tell me that the car died on her. I
asked her to bring the car back, but she refused and took it to another shop. When she fmally
brought the car back to the shop, I examined the bolt and found that it had been unscrewed after
leaving the shop.
Now I have performed thousands of oil changes during my career, and under no circumstance would I
forget replacing the oil. Now ifl am to be accused of having forgotten to do it this one time,
(that there is a first time to everything), I will state that I took the car for a test drive of
about three miles after completing the work and if I had forgotten to put the oil in, I would
certainly have discovered it then. But the fact of the matter is that I did replace the oil and I
am the victim of a scam perpetrated by this lady. Based on all the above, I accuse [redacted]of having unscrewed the bolt after leaving my shop and draining all the oil so that she
would make this claim against me and make a few easy bucks.
I am also enclosing with this letter a picture of the [redacted] car which shows that it can easily
be classified as junk (and I state that as a professional car mechanic.) Now, [redacted]
is demanding $1,200.00 to settle. I will again assert that I am an innocent victim of a scam and I
am inclined to reject her offer and see her in court which would in all likelihood waste an entire
day. However, I have a family to support and I would prefer to spend that day at my shop doing
productive work. Accordingly, and without admitting any guilt whatsoever, and in order to get rid
of a distasteful nuisance, I am willing to make [redacted] generous offer of $800.00 to
settle the matter entirely, (which, by the way is much more than the car is worth.) If she refuses
my offer then I will have no choice but to wait until she sues me and I will file a counter suit
against her for fraud and seek all costs I have incurred from the court.
