Pollards Quick Lube and Service Center

Last weekend, we were traveling when we realized we had a loose wheel and needed to have all five studs replaced on that hub.

I took our Dodge Grand Caravan into Pollards Service Center and Quick Lube, crossing my fingers that they would be able to help. The service writer I talked to (I'm assuming it was the owner) realized we were stuck until the van was fixed. He was completely booked with work, but said he'd squeeze us in.

Getting the parts should have been the easy part. As it turned out, no one in northern Michigan had the studs to fit this vehicle. So he suggested replacing the whole hub assembly, considerably more expensive, but it would allow us to get back home and avoid taking another day off from work.

A few minutes after agreeing to this plan, he came back to the waiting room and said he had another idea. He would get the hub assembly, remove the studs and install them in my vehicle. He'd order new studs, install them in the hub assembly and return it to the part supplier, something the parts supplier agreed to.

The job was done in about an hour and half and the service writer shared with me the detailed procedure they use in torquing lugnuts. Maybe they could share that procedure with my local mechanic who apparently left the lugnuts loose in the first place (and overtightened them on other wheels).

Pollard's probably saved us a few hundred dollars. Realize, I'm an out-of-towner and I'm unlikely to be a repeat customer. It would have been easy to just do the full job and pocket the extra cash.

But that's not what Pollard's Service Center did. To those who live in the Indian River area, you are fortunate to have such an auto repair center nearby. Should I ever need auto service if I'm in the area again, I will go out of my way to use Pollard's.
