September 2, 2015Dear [redacted]:
This is in response to the letter we received regarding the above listed complaint number.
I have reviewed the account for this patient. This patient was seen by our physicians in the emergency department at [redacted]'s Hospital on...
8/30/2014. The patient presented with auto insurance information as well as health insurance information. A bill was sent to [redacted] on 9/19/2014. It is our policy to allow 90 days for the insurance carrier to process the claim. Since there was no response from the auto insurance, the patients health insurance was billed. The health insurance was unable to identify the patient due to the incorrect ID# taken at the time of registration. This denial was processed on 2/20/2015.At this time, we attempted to re-bill the auto insurance. Again, we received no response from the auto insurance. A statement was generated to the patient 5/27/15 showing that several attempts were made to obtain payment from the insurance.
On 6/15/15, a representative from [redacted]’s Hospital contacted our office on behalf of the patient to verify the insurance information. We re-billed the auto insurance.
On 7/17/15, our office processed an email from the patient with regards to her bill. A response was sent listing dates that bills were mailed to each insurance and the current status of her account. The patient was concerned that she already settled with the auto insurance before she knew about this bill, however the auto insurance had indeed received this bill. The issue is, according to the claims adjuster, the patient received a settlement check on 12/31/2014 which did not pay for medical claims. The settlementonly provided for bodily injury. Therefore, the settlement would not have paid for medical claims.Since the hospital provided us with the correct health insurance policy number on 6/15/15, we have appealed this claim with the health insurance for payment and are awaiting disposition of this appeal. There has been no payment from the patient on this account.
Please feel free to contact me at ###-###-####, ext. [redacted] if you should have any further questions or need additional information.
Sincerely,Corinne K.
