Radio ads promote cheap memberships and easy enrollment. Once I arrived at the gym was told I needed specific bank account information or can't join
On Wednesday January 22, 2020 I Asked to join local Planet Fitness gym because of a special promotional price. After I gave them my initial information was asked for my bank account number and routing number, which I did not have and did not have easy access to. Was not offered the chance to start the process and come back witn the information later. When I was able to come back Saturday, January 25, 2020 with the information I was told they cannot extend the offer past the deadline, which was the day I tried to join. No manger was available at that time so I called the store on the next business day and spoke with Gilbert and was told by him that he could not make any exceptions and could only honor any current promotions. I asked to speak to the owner or franchisee and Gilbert said he was not allowed to give out that information. He said that all promotions are "Corporate " promotions and that he can't make any exceptions. I said the corporate ads don't say anything about needing specific bank account information to join and he said that those decisions are made by the individual franchises. I asked who the franchisee is for his store and he finally gave me a name, Timothy Krutz (Gilbert's spelling.) I have tried to contact "Corporate" Planet Fitness to no avail. This is false advertising/bait and switch. Terrible business practice.
I still simply would like to join at the promotional price and benefits I initially tried to claim.
We have been given an official report from our onsite team, and the encounter with this customer is as follows;
He did not have any billing information to sign up with, he was upset and insisted we use the information we had on file for his wife. Which he was notified we would not be able to do, unless she was present to authorize and sign as a co-signer. He then attempted to find his info on his phone but was unsuccessful. He returned once the $0.20 sale had expired, and was offered the $1 deal.
However, we currently have a $0.25 sale going that expires 2/13/2020. Please feel free to contact the club for more details or check us out online if unable to come in. He will still be required to provide all the information originally requested.
Below is the current offer for the Classic membership, which is the membership we believe the customer was most interested in.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The interaction desribed in their response is not factual. My wife was present and the option of having a co-signer was not offered. I never insisted that they take my wife's information although they knew she was there because I turned to her and asked her a few questions about how she joined. The staff never offered any solutions other than to join right then or lose the deal. And the actual deal I was interested in was the Black Card membership so the offer of the 'Classic' membership just shows that the club staff were not effectively listening to me and the offer does not resolve the issues at hand. This is poor customer service and is very frustrating. I am not sure why a manager or owner wasn't able to help me with this before now. It would have saved aggravation on both ends. I am concerned that if there is a problem in the future the club staff's level of customer service will not have improved and there will be no recourse to a manager empowered to make decisions and offer options other than "sorry there isn't anyone else you can talk to." The national/parent company simply pawns off customer concerns by saying 'contact your local club' and the current local club I am dealing with does not provide help or try to resolve issues.
Seeking Refund of Unused Member Services. the business makes cancelation a difficult process.
I am being charged $290.00 by Planet Fitness for joining and never using their clubs. Never even been issued a card. I joined on September 15, 2018, and immediately realized I had made a mistake. The clubs were not in locations easily accessible to me (partially disabled). I called the 12th Street Dallas, TX location on September 18, 2018, to cancel my membership. I was told that it would be handled. It obviously never was. Today, March 1, 2019, I was charged for six months of membership dues and late fees. Finally, when I called to threaten them with a lawsuit, they canceled my membership, but they are refusing to refund my money. Dirty.
A return of the $290.44 I was billed, less the $58.00 cancelation fee charged by Planet Fitness.
This case has been resolved to my satisfaction Planet Fitness made a full refund.
Trying to cancel, but would not allow me because I would need to come to the club or send a certified letter.
I called the club to cancel my membership because of a medical emergency. The young man that answered asked me serveral personal questions before telling that I couldn't cancel over the phone. First my health matters are very personal and second the policy I have should allow me to cancel at anytime. I'm already stuck in a hospital... praying for better days. I don't want to argue with someone over a gym membership. That I haven't used in months because of an illness. This is where that intimidation factor comes in with Planet Fitness. I thought this was a none intimidating gym. After crying about it, one of my nurses suggested this. I can't continue call or email with nothing being done but continue to get charged for something I'm not using. I know it's a small amount but my hospital bills are so much more.
Cancel and never be charged again
I have a 12 month membership with Planet Fitness, it's about to expire in about a month time, so I went to the gym where I am a member to cancel my membership since it automatically renews to a month to month afterwards and I did not want to continue. In my contract, it is written that I should cancel before the 10th of the month the month you want to stop your membership.
So, I was almost a month early with my cancellation but when I got to my Planet Fitness location they would not accept my cancellation. They said I could cancel my last month of membership and incur a penalty but I could not register my cancellation until after my contract ended and before the 10th of the next month which for me came down to a 3 day period. I pointed out that the contract I signed had no such provisions about the timing of my cancellation in it, that all it stated was that the cancellation should happen before the 10th of the month that you want to cancel. When pressed about this discrepancy I was told that the rules and regulations of Planet Fitness include a clause that they can add new rules at will without my consent. I thought this reasoning inadequate so I called the corporate offices of Planet Fitness to resolve this but they repeated what I was told at by the Planet Fitness Employee. It's obviously an illegal policy otherwise Planet Fitness would have put it into my contract. And since the cancellation period is included in the contract I believe that additional rules and regulations could not supersede this since that would essentially void the entire contract. This means that Planet Fitness is breaking the US laws of commerce by refusing cancellation.
Product_Or_Service: Membership
Account_Number: XXXXXXXXX
Other (requires explanation) I want Planet Fitness to start abiding by the law. This is obviously an illegal policy that they have left purposefully out of their contracts but which they do enforce. I have both a written statement from the employee at my Gym and a recording from the telephone conversation with the corporate office.
Our response:
As stated in the agreement, if you have a minimum monthly term, your account will be billed for a minimum of 12 months and will continue to on a month to month basis at the monthly rate of $10.83 until you cancel in accordance with the agreement.
To cancel your monthly membership and stop the billing of the Monthly Membership Fee on the 17th of the month, the club requires written notice by the 10th of the month delivered to the club in person or postmarked via certified mail...If your monthly membership has a minimum term, and you wish to cancel your membership early for reasons other than those listed in section 7 of the agreement, a $58 buyout fee is required with your cancellation.
Which in this case, the contract was signed on 11/7/16 making the expiration date 11/7/17. Cancelling on 10/16/17 would require you to pay one last monthly payment and the buyout fee of $58.
Thank you
