Cole AC installed a [redacted] XR13 3 ton heat pump in July of 2007 and for a number of years the system seemed to work fine. It gets light use as this is a summer home we use 3-4 weeks a year. The rest of the time the temperature is set to 50 for winter and 85 for summer.
Starting in December of 2014 the following has taken place:
Dec 18 2014 found defective condensor coil - lost all freon $99, Jan 29 2015 replaced defective condensor coil $689, Feb 14 2015 defective fan contactor - stuck on and wasting electricity but eventually seemed to unstick N/C, Apr 03 2015 found defective air handler expansion valve - unit would heat but not cool $99.00, Apr 03 2015 estimate to replace the expansion valve $600.00 +.
The complaint is against [redacted] as the dealer and [redacted] as the equipment provider. It sure looks like a case of planned obsolescence (very limited service life) to me and now it's being suggested that I buy a whole new system for $6,000 ~ $7,000.
Again, this unit is basically used 3-4 weeks per year, so I can't give [redacted] or [redacted] a favorable review based on this experience.
