I apologize for the confusion and inconvenience.Pineapple Health did not charge the patient, the lab's third party billing company did.Though the lab is out-of-state, it is in-network with the insurance company and therefore is compliant with insurance requirement.A consent has been signed by our patients regarding medical procedures including blood draw. The overall purpose of using this kind of lab, unlike the usual ones, is to provide high quality diagnostic service without the possible high cost from our patients, as it is a customary procedure, not "special arrangement", for a lab like this to simply send statements without actually collecting and harassing patientsAs such, the lab essentially just accept whatever the insurance company pays and that's it, unlike the usual labs that will actually go after and collect from patients. In this case, the third party billing company that the lab used actually had gone rogue and violated the contractual agreement between the lab and the billing company of not pursuing collection from patients as the original intent of the lab, a fact that has now led to a legal dispute between the lab and the billing company, which is why we told our patients to "ignore the bills" as recommended by the lab official. Thus, there is no fraudulence regarding such matter, as I will caution patients to not say that as it may be used against them for potential defamation claims. Finally, with regard to upfront cost, in the medical environment where it is clouded by insurance companies complex coverage policies, I offer the following suggestions: Simply do not utilize insurance-based healthcare, or Seek a cash-only medical practice where all up front cost will be clearly stated before any service is provided similar to a typical retail businessRegards
