A return of a recapped drive tire to Phoenix tire company for a separated cap turned into a fiasco.
I returned an tire that was separating between the recap and the core. This tire had tons of treat and no other problem. I was told that they would give me 67 dollars toward another tire, along with a free dismount and mount. Also, that I would have all the time in the world to return it
".... as long as it didn't come back bald...". was the salesman's witty retort about the length of time I had to think about the offer.
I told the salesman that I would need him to write that up since I didn't use thier company and would need to think about it.
When I received the written statement it didn't have the discounted dismount and mount on it. I asked for him to write that down also, along with his name.
When reading the updated version of warranty offer, I noted that salesman gave me only 48 hours to return for this offer. This being significantly less time than he mentioned the minute prior. When I asked for 10 days to make my decision, he took the written statement and told me that I was being unreasonable in my requests.
When I protested. He asked me if I wanted to talk to the owner. I said "Yes, I would like to talk to the owner". The salesman took four steps back, looked to his left at an open door of an office and said.... "... you wanna talk to his guy?...". I didn't hear an answer, but the salesman retorts.. "he's busy". Of course, there was nothing to do but leave the premises, unsatisfied and quite upset.
Besides the obvious thought that a recapped tir that is separating at the treat is an manufacturing defect, here is a recap ( pardon the pun) of the lovely time had a Phx. Tire;
A. Offered 67 dollars and free mount and dismount with plenty of time to decide, Until I ask for it in writing. Where as I am told I am being unreasonable.
B. Warranty is rescinded
C. No recourse to complain about service given
Salient points;
I never raised my voice.
Salesman berated me in front of the office staff.
