Dear Sir or Madame, Mr*** came in on 8/13/He said there was a coolant leak at the cylinder head to the blockOwner furnished the gasket kit without head boltsI disassembled and removed the cylinder head to replace the head gasketAfter the unit was disassembled I found coolant leakage
around every cylinder liner and no problem with the head gasket like suspectedIn my experience this means that the coolant leakage around the cylinder liners where they seal at the block means the liners would need to be replaced and the cylinder block would need to have upper entries cut and brought back to standard, with new inserts from a machinistAlso, the water jackets were pitted from erosion and would need repair from a machinistI submitted pictures of multiple issues to the owner and had him come to verify issues and discuss steps to be takenI called for prices of the mobile machinist work and two different part suppliers to get the best pricing for the customer, at his requestworked up the labor price as wellWe communicated through text messages and telephone calls including his son, Carlos, the driver of the truckThe estimate for full repair was labor hours, $Machinist labor and parts was $In frame major part kit was $ 11,Total estimate $16,935.86, not including oil and coolantCore returns would be credited when they were returnedI was requested by the owner to 'put it back together,' he did not have the money to fix itI said OI did install the new head gasket kit plus replaced the head bolts that I picked upAfter reassembly I replaced all filters (except air) and engine oilI ran the diagnostic, it needed the regeneration process doneThe process was completed without a leakage problemThe owner took unit to test drive and came back with no leaks and said it ran better than ever, They asked for a guarantee and I was unable to oblige, With the genuine issues not being addressed I told them it could be minutes or year, you never know when the problem would returnAt that time, it was not leaking and without issueThe owner did receive a copy of the invoice when the truck was pickedIt was my understanding the owner knew the potential outcome not having repaired the engine properly and that there was no guaranteeAfter he had issues with engine it seemed that through translation with his young daughter there may have been some miscommunication or language barrier issuesThey still claimed the job was not done correctlyI offered to do the proper repairs at half my labor rate to help their situation however, I had no control on the part prices or outside machinist laborThey refused my proposal and demanded their money backAlthough we sympathize with Mr*** he clearly was unwilling to address the greater issueWe offered what we could in reducing labor should he choose to repair the engine properlyAttached you will find a copy of the invoice in questionWe also have the pictures of the engine issues and text messages as well, We respectfully request that correspondence be corrected and addressed to Perry Truck and Equipment RepairFeel free to contact us if anything further is needed. Sincerely, Perry Truck and Equipment Repair
I am rejecting this response because:
Hello, Attached you will find the invoice from the other shop and is dated 10/01/16 because that's when I made the last payment. Furthermore I want to mention that when [redacted] gave us the truck, I had booked loads for the whole week and I have proof of that if needed. Unfortunately, we only completed one load. Due to [redacted]’s negligence and incompetence my truck broke down in the trip. We didn’t know or imagine that 3 days after, this would happen. Like we didn’t trust him anymore we took the truck to another shop, they fixed what [redacted] didn’t fix in the first place and due that we run the truck to Utah unaware of [redacted]’s negligence, the other shop fixed what it got messed up on the trip also and all these consequences were [redacted]’s incompetence. Thank you in advance for your help. Sincerely, [redacted]
