I received a letter from a company which calls itself Performant recovery inc. In the letter it states they have been enlisted to collect a outstanding debt which I supposedly have for services which I received through the Department of Defense in the amount of 989.62. I have never had any dealing with the DOD and do not know where this figure came from. In the letter it states that I must pay the full amount or face damages to my credit, and even criminal charges should I refuse to pay these people.
I tried to call them at the number provided, however all I get is a foreign sounding person who says they will connect me to the case manager in charge. I have yet to be connected with anyone, instead it goes to a voice mail which tells me to leave my SSN and contact details and someone will return my call. Needless to say I will not do that.
I did speak with the legal offices at the local military base, along with speaking with the law enforcement where I live, and they all told me that this is a scam, and not to have anything to do with it. The Airforce Legal office instructed me to contact the Revdex.com and report it to them so that others will not fall victim to these con artist. Be advise the letter looks very official, however after checking with multiple offices, they all have told me that this is a con, and not to fall for this scam.
