In April 2013, we bought an Elite Wood patio cover from Jeff Shore of Patio Warehouse. There were several flaws, the worst of which was loud noises that they called "popping."

We made numerous calls to Jeff and others at Patio Warehouse only to be told that it wasn't convenient for them to come to our house; or they would schedule an appointment but not show up. This went on for months until we involved the manufacturer who ordered them to replace the cover. The second cover showed the same flaws and made the same unbearable noises.

In June 2014, we took them to Small Claims Court and won. Patio Warehouse was ordered to remove the cover and refund the purchase price. They had 30 days to appeal or to pay the judgment: they did neither. We gave them an additional 2 weeks, then reported Patio Warehouse to the California Contractors State License Board and began the collection process. They then paid immediately.

The measure of a man is not how he acts when all goes well, but how he treats customers when problems arise. By this standard, Jeff Shore and Patio Warehouse fail miserably. They showed unbelievable disregard for this customer and didn't care at all about the aggravation and sleep loss caused by this noisy patio cover.

FULL DISCLOSURE:

1. The law suit was against 2 defendants: Patio Warehouse and the manufacturer, Metals USA. Court ruled against Patio Warehouse; not Metals USA.

2. Noises began within 1 week and it took a very frustrating 5 months to get it replaced. After 9 more months of frustration, we went to court.
