Review: On Friday August 1, 2014, myself along with two other friends came to this establishment for dinner. As is the policy of Pasta Mia, we were sat when all three of us arrived at the restaurant. Upon being seated, we were waited on by the female owner of the restaurant. She was extremely assertive, to the point of being quite rude, in making us order our meals. The policy is written on the menu that you are not allowed to share dishes and thus we all ordered three separate salads and three separate entrees. During dinner, my friend noticed a roach that was crawling on the wall behind me. We notified one of the wait staff of the roach and she immediately killed it. The owner noticed that we were uncomfortable and began to tell us that the restaurant was recently exterminated and that was why a roach came "out" of the wall. Despite that incident we continued on and finished our dinner. Throughout the entire dining experience, the owner never once came back to check on our table or even to ask how things were going especially after the "roach" incident. However, my complaint is not even related to the service or the roach; when we asked for the check the owner brought the check over and calculated a 20% tip for herself, which was calculated on top of tax. I understand that some restaurants add gratuity to parties of six or more however as a former restaurant worker I have never seen a restaurant add 20% for a party of three. We asked the owner to remove the tip and she proceeded to argue with us. It is not a requirement to pay a tip - and thus she finally (after continuous arguing) removed the tip. If Pasta Mia is going to add gratuity then it should be clearly stated in the menu or somewhere in the restaurant where a consumer can see it and the rules governing the policy. The owner should not be adding a 20% tip (on top of tax) to a table of three; it was especially disturbing as she is the owner and clearly should not be asking for tips. I believe this was clear display of deceptive practice.Desired Settlement: I would like an apology and refund for the awful dining experience.
