Review: In March 2014, I called Parkeway Appliance to check out a report of a non-working gas dryer at a newly acquired rental property. The technician went to the house for a brief time and left me a message saying the gas control valve was bad. He said it was a very expensive part and I should simply buy a new dryer. I tried to call him back over the next few days and never got an answer or a response. Finally, 5 days later he answered and explained what the part was and that it was over $200 and I should get a new dryer. So I did just that and bought a new dryer for $533 on top of the service call fee which they charges $140 for. The installers called me the day of the installation and said they installed the new dryer. However, it didn’t work so they started looking around. In minutes, they determined that the gas pipe to the dryer was simply disconnected and the dryer wasn’t getting gas. In essence, the Authorized Appliance technician, [redacted], did not even check to see if gas was being supplied to the dryer. He simply made up his findings. I’m not a dryer technician but if I had to troubleshoot an issue with a gas appliance the first thing I’d do is to make sure it was getting gas. From here it gets worse. I repeatedly called [redacted], the service manager. He continued to give me the run-around and say that his technician heard gas and that the tenant must have removed the gas pipe. Are you kidding me? To make it worse, I had to call repeatedly for updates and he avoided my calls. He finally admitted that his technician failed to do his job but I did not get a refund or any form of remediation. His reasoning is that the technician went to the property so they should get paid. His technician was at the property for less than 15 minutes, did not do basic troubleshooting, made up a non-existent issue, and flat-out lied. To date, the actual problem has not been resolved.Desired Settlement: I already bought the dryer and am willing to keep it. However, I absolutely want the $140 service charge refunded. They did absolutely nothing and cost me an extra $533 that I wouldn't have spent if a qualified, ethical technician had done his job.
