Review: I went to [redacted] at Park Avenue Facial and Oral Surgery for a pre-surgical exam for wisdom tooth removal, with the intent of having the surgery done by [redacted]. Before the exam began, I was told by his [redacted] that [redacted]'s practice was out of my dental insurance network. I believed at the moment that I would be able to receive sufficient reimbursement for the out-of-pocket fees that I was about pay.For a routine exam and panoramic x-ray, [redacted] charged $200 and $400, respectively. One day later, I checked with my insurance and found that for out-of-network service, they cover up to $60 for a dental exam and $140 for the panoramic x-ray. After further research, I've confirmed that my insurance coverage for those services are within average ranges for the New York City region.[redacted]'s out-of-network prices are beyond double of average prices for dental and oral services. I could not have found out this information prior to my examination, and thus I had no choice but to pay out of pocket or be denied care that day. In this instance, the care was necessary that day because I was having significant pain. I believe that [redacted] took advantage of this situation, and I believe he does this frequently.Desired Settlement: I would like to receive between $300 and $400 from Park Avenue Facial and Oral Surgery. The difference between what I was charged and what I will be reimbursed with is $400. I believe that [redacted] is able to charge more routinely based on the nature of dental insurance and the lack of information that out-of-network patients have when they walk into his office. Because of this, his practice should be highlighted within the Revdex.com as one to avoid for out-of-network patients.

Response:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:
Since filing the Revdex.com complaint, I have spoken with a [redacted] at Park Ave Oral and Facial Surgery who clarified that the procedure I received was a CT Scan, not a Panoramic X-Ray. It should be noted that when the procedure was done, I was not told that it was a CT Scan, but rather "a high detail 3-D X-Ray that costs $400." I have still not yet received reimbursement or notification of what I will be reimbursed by my dental insurance company (Doctors Council Benefit Foundation) and am uncertain as to how the medical procedure was filed by [redacted]'s staff and whether my insurance company would deem a CT scan necessary for the assessment needed at the time. The [redacted] I spoke to informed me that insurance claims for CT scans are filed "in three separate portions" (paraphrased), which seemed quite vague. Moreover, there was no comment from [redacted]'s [redacted] about the price of the dental exam alone ($200), which is more than twice the average cost of routine dental exams in the NY Metropolitan region ($60 - $80). As such, I do not consider this issue to be resolved.
Sincerely,

Response:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:
The business, Park Avenue Oral and Facial Surgery, P.C., has refused to cooperate and negotiate with both myself and the Revdex.com, even after I have complied with their request for HIPAA documentation/authorization. As such, I will be seeking further assistance with the Attorney General of New York. In the event that action by the Attorney General does not resolve my dispute, I will file a case with New York City Small Claims court. I am responding to communicate unequivocally to the business that I will utilize every resource at my disposal until my dispute is resolved.
Sincerely,
