June 8, 2015Dear Revdex.com:This is in response to Complaint #[redacted]. Our company did replace a driveway for [redacted] on August 19, 2014. The driveway we installed is 6” thick, 4000 PSI concrete over 4” stone base reinforced with wire mesh. [redacted] was very pleased with the driveway as was I when...
completed.[redacted] contacted me March 16, 2015, and asked me to come over and look at his driveway as it had cracked. I went over immediately to take a look. He wrote that I said, “There's nothing I can do about it, it was caused by the bad weather.” That’s N?? what I said. I said, “I don’t know why it cracked, but this winter didn't help.” By the way, it was the coldest February on record. I also told [redacted] that while we can't guarantee against cracks, the reason for the wire mesh is to hold the concrete together in the event of cracks. I explained to him that the driveway is not failing, and we agreed that not esthetically pleasing to him, or me it doesn't warrant replacing. This was a very friendly meeting, and we left it at that. I was Shocked to receive this complaint. Obviously, someone must have told him differently, hence the time span in contacting you.The “shoddy work" comment isn't sitting well with me. We are a very well respected 3rd Generation Contractor. I personally have been in the field 38 years. The business has been in existence 60+ years. See how many complaints you can find! [redacted] hounded us to do this work, I doubt it was because he thought we were a “shoddy contractor”.Although, I can’t honestly say why it cracked, I can say it could have been numerous reasons starting with the design. The driveway slopes from the street to his basement. There is a concrete retaining wall on each side. All the water runs down the driveway and into a drain. The walls have moved in the past. I see he had that fixed, maybe the walls moved a little, maybe the pipe he had us hook to the drain leaks. I don't know, the point is, it’s a problem prone design. Yes his old driveway was there 43 years, so will this driveway!Sincerely,Dennis P. Owner
