Initial Business Response /* (1000, 6, 2015/08/26) */
To be perfectly honest, I am very disappointed by the review that was posted by this customer.
[redacted] contacted us from out of state about a 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle (a 50 year old classic car) that we did not restore. [redacted] insisted that...
this was his dream car and wanted to purchase it. I helped [redacted] in this purchase and made him fully aware of our disclosures that we allow and encourage inspections/appraisals, etc. I informed him that we posted upwards of 20 detailed pics of the car and also provided [redacted] with a video of the car upon his request. [redacted] was extremely thrilled and worked with his bank to get approved for the loan. Upon additional encouragement that he have the car inspected due to the nature of USED and CLASSIC CARS, [redacted] himself ordered a 3rd party inspector to come out to our facility and inspect the car.
[redacted] paid for an independent, professional 3rd party inspection of the vehicle and this included the following:
Checked underneath the car for leaks
took numerous pictures of his own
went on a ride with me for over 5 miles in the car to test drivability/brakes
inspected every [redacted] and gadget in the car in detail
wrote out a detailed report outlining EVERYTHING on the car including trim/paint/gauges/tires/wheels/interior/etc and furnished that report over to the client.
I personally believed that the inspector's client ([redacted]) had FULL KNOWLEDGE of the true condition of this vehicle based on the inspector's professional assessment.
The bank also appraised the car in the upper 20k range whereas we sold [redacted] the vehicle in the lower 20k range giving [redacted] a few thousand dollars of equity in the vehicle.
That being said, any claim of misrepresentation should be taken up with the inspector. I feel that the Buyer's complaint is a purely Buyer's Remorse and a possible attempt to extort money from our dealership.
In regards to shipping, we arranged transport of the vehicle (upon approval from the Buyer) via a licensed and insured Transport Broker. While we do sell cars, we do not ship them and thus we utilize a professional in that field to do so. Any damage that occurs to the vehicle during transport is an issue that needs to taken up with the transport company themselves. This was acknowledged by the Buyer through his signature.
In regards to the phone call, THE ONLY CALL WE HAVE RECEIVED FROM THE CLIENT was from his wife, who was yelling at me when she received the car. While I was empathetic towards her concerns, I did tell her that [redacted] had full knowledge about the vehicle that he was buying. I also explained to his wife that All Sales are Final and [redacted] acknowledged those terms with his signature on the contract that bears his name. To date, this is the only call or text message that I have received from [redacted] or his wife.
It is unfortunate that the purchase of this vehicle appears to have caused some strive in [redacted]'s relationship with his wife. I am completely surprised that this deal has turned out like this as in all honesty, it is a great car that was represented fully and fairly, both by our dealership and a 3rd party inspector.
During the course of our negotiations, [redacted] was very welcome to even come down himself to inspect the car as allot of our (happy) customers have done just that. We try to do as much for our customers by giving them the lowest prices, offering additional customer service and making our clients aware of what they are purchasing. We simply cannot provide refunds for buyers remorse, especially in situations where the car was represented accurately and inspected. I stand by this testimony and the documentation for this deal backs up every word that I have written here.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 8, 2015/08/27) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
First, I will address the "only" phone call they received. The "only" phone call he actually ANSWERED was from my wife, because he was too much of a coward to talk to me. I've found that tends to happen when people get caught in a lie. She did not yell, by any stretch of the imagination. She expressed a concern that the car wasn't what it was represented to be, while the car was still attached to the transport truck, and we both inspected it and realized that it was not, again, by any stretch of the imagination, what it was represented to be. There was not "strife" caused with my wife, and this company having the gall to say something so immature shows just how unprofessional they really are. I have record of calling "[redacted]" at [redacted] Motors, at least 6 times after he spoke with my wife. Not one of which times, he answered the phone. His voicemail says to text him for quicker response. I also have record of the several texts he received, none of which he responded to, after not responding to voicemails. The only responses I received from him via text, were weeks later, when the documentation on the vehicle had not arrived when promised. He didn't bother to send them until 2 weeks after the vehicle sale, though he promised to overnight them before I ever actually received the car. I called, and texted to ask about informational documentation in terms of build reciepts, etc, to which he still has not responded.
The "detailed" pictures of the outside of the car were from 10-15 feet away, so the seller may want to look up the definition of "detailed".
It is interesting, in reading the other reviews on this company, that their first response is to accuse their customers of trying to "extort" money. I asked that the company take the car back within 3 minutes of putting eyes on it, because it was so much worse than it had been represented. I wanted MY money back. He claimed he had so much interest in the car, but wanted nothing to do with taking it back, one can only assume because he was lying through his teeth.
The appraiser (who was not from the bank) that was sent out, was one local to [redacted] Motors, who had worked with them in the past. The appraisal was garbage, as this car, now in far better condition than I received it, would not bring in anywhere near the quoted appraisal value.
The car did in fact drive, and it did in fact, stop, with a lot of effort. I had to replace the calipers, pads, and rotors immediately, as it was unsafe to drive on the road in the condition I received it. I am currently taking up the issue with the inspecting company, as there are some discrepencies there as well. There was clearly no check for leaks, because as I stated in my original complaint, there are oil and transmission fluid stains all over my garage. I have also found that the back windscreen leaks, as the first time I washed the car, my back seat ended up soaking wet. The doors were misaligned, which was disclosed, but the car has clearly been in at least one accident, based on the extensive body damage, and the amount of cheap bondo used. This car was advertised as laser straight, which is laughable, aside from the the fact that it is going to cost me upwards of 6k to get it fixed.
The car was advertised as recently restored (within 3 or 4 years), yet the body is not straight, the distributor was no good, the distributor cap was completely corroded, the header is dented, the plugs were covered in oil, the enire under side of the motor is covered in oil and the car leaks from the windows, as well as the engine and transmission.
The rear passenger quarter panel window fell off the track last week, and the body shop discovered that it was missing several bolts. Again, ALL weatherstripping is completely rotted, and ALL trim is rusted, dented or corroded.
The list of problems with this car is extensive, and the only thing that was listed was the fact that the doors needed slight adjusting, and the windows didn't roll up all the way to the trim.
This company clearly has no interest in correcting the problem. They were able to lie well enough to make it my problem, so why would they? This complaint is only going to serve as a warning to other customers. DO NOT use this company. When they get the same complaints from multiple people, the pattern becomes pretty clear. Save your money for a private seller or a company with a better track record. At the end of the day, I made the mistake of doing business with them. I made the mistake of placing my trust in a car salesman. I should have known better. I tried to cover all my bases, but unfortunately, it still didn't work out. Don't make the same mistake I, and several others have made in doing business with this company.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 10, 2015/09/04) */
At this point I feel like this is going to be redundant on my answers to Mr Grays issue of purchasing his 1965 Chevelle, in regards to my explanation please refer back to my first response, Again please keep in mind that this car was appraised by a professional appraiser (3rd party company not affiliated to the dealership) who was appointed by Mr [redacted], the car was also inspected by a professional inspector (3rd party company not affiliated to the dealership) and also hired by Mr [redacted], both of those parties are professionals in their field and have been in that line of business for numerous years and have inspected and appraised numerous cars and agreed to our valuation of the vehicle from our pictures and description of the Chevelle, at this point I feel like we posted a very accurate description of what we were selling, made Mr [redacted] aware of the entire transaction from the items on the car to the mailing of the title, sold Mr [redacted] a Chevelle priced way under its appraised value and clearly disclosed everything on the car which was backed up by an inspector that Mr [redacted] hired himself. Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 12, 2015/09/09) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I think that based on the history of this company, when it comes to classic cars in particular, you can see a pattern here. As much as they "hate to see even one" complaint, they will do absolutely nothing to make it right, other than accuse the customer of trying to extort money. I think that if they want to see the complaints stop rolling in, being honest is a good way to reach that goal. Mr. [redacted] said that he thought I just had buyers remorse. I will not argue that. People tend to have buyers remorse when they purchase something that turns out to not be what it was advertised as. A 65 Chevelle was, and is still a "dream car" of mine, but this experience in obtaining one has become a nightmare because of the outright dishonesty of the the company I bought from. It really is a shame. Since I purchased the car, I have had to spend several thousand dollars on things that were advertised as "restored". Windows don't fall out of restored cars. Window cranks don't fall off, oil and transmission fluid don't leak from the engine compartment, paint doesn't crack because of the cheap bondo underneath, etc. Just be forewarned. This company is not an honest company to do business with.

Between us, the appraiser and the inspector, who are all professionals in the Automotive Industry have come up with the same conclusion however Mr [redacted] seems to think otherwise. [redacted] Motors has been in business for numerous years and has sold over XXXXX cars and we try to accurately describe all of our vehicles, take numerous detailed pictures and videos and always advise our clients how to purchase their automobile and have always to give our clients the best deal in the market, we have numerous clients that will give us very high recommendations from our years of earning repeat clientele and as much as we hate to see even one customer disappointed we know there are factors that are out of our control.
